Miners have the tools to shoot back, their drone bays aren't restricted to mining drones. Most choose not to, just as most of them choose to not fit their ships with a tank.

Choices have consequences.

5 Hobgoblin II drones aren't going to keep a Hulk from being blown to bits by even just one Gank fit Cat.
If you're flying a Hulk solo you're doing it wrong. It's a ship that is meant to be used in a fleet with other barges/ exhumers and an Orca, preferably fitted with shield harmonising links, in support; 5 drones might not do much good, 15+ will.

Personally I fly a Procurer with a brick tank, DDAs and tackle, if people want to try and gank me while I'm mining, it's going to hurt their wallets considerably more than it hurts mine, and they'll need to bring several friends. Odds are Concord will drop the doughnuts, answer the blap-phone and wtfbbqpwn them before I'm into structure Big smile

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I do not mine and never have.

BUT if I did there is no way I would be stupid enough to tank a mining barge. You would probably have to lose a barge every 2 days to make up for the lost income the tank causes.

Sensibly miners are better off just counting barge replacement as one of the "costs" and ignoring tank.

With the slight boost to the Hulk's CPU you can fit a Invul Field II, and keep your 2 MLU IIs.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.

Your maths are somewhat lacking

So..... you think you gain an extra 200m+ for a few hours mining each two days in exchange for a low slot and and medium slots you cant use to increase your yield with anyway?

Yeah, you are right

Youve never High Sec mined.

Hi sec gankers are every bit of a care bear as hi sec miners. I would go as far to say they are ever more care bear than the miner's, not only are they also hiding out in hi sec they are only targeting easy kills who can't shoot back.

Before I moved to WH space then later to null I would only look at miners if they were a war target.

Its not the gankers fault they don't shoot back, or fit a tank, or fly afk...

Ganking people is only as easy as people let it be.

I only do this in a Retriever with ice. With anything in hisec (including hisec ice) or lowsec this is terrible advice.

Now - I've heard of AFK cloakers, AFK haulers and even AFK missioners - but AFK miners that's a new one.

What do they do - make sure the rocks don't undock? Or maybe PRESERVE the rocks by just sitting there and not engaging.

This is puzzlement....

I'll explain it in easy steps for you

  1. Undock
  2. Warp to belt
  3. Target asteroids
  4. Activate strip miners
  5. Leave computer and do something elsewhere
  6. Come back X minutes later to full ore bay
  7. Dock
  8. Empty ore bay
  9. Go to 1

TL;DR Push button and receive bacon for zero effort.

OK it seems you have trouble with compression. Don't know what you didn't understand but let me try some clarification.

Once upon a time I lived in hi sec, during my time in hi sec, before I moved out of hi sec to wormhole space and after that I moved to null sec.
I never took part in ganking a miner, the only time I would kill a miner in hi sec would be if that pilot was in a corporation that my corporation was at war with.

I never got jollys out of ganking miners who would not have the dps with drones to kill me.

The joy of placing their smiling faces into my address book, waiting for them to log in, and ganking them over and over until they stop logging in. I have quite an impressive collection of dead subscriptions. My personal FU to CCP, as i believe they are beyond saving. Their conduct regarding Erotica1's banning came pretty close to motivating me to start up again, if I didn't have other pressures on my time....

If gankers want to impact CCP's bottom line and retention rate, they should NEVER unsubscribe, but instead use their resources to make carebears unsub instead. Has a much greater impact, and I smile inwardly when I see another thread about layoffs.
In this regard, I differ from Ero1 and CODE, who really just want to have fun and save bears from dull gameplay.
I'd rather carebears are just exterminated entirely.
