Ok first things first, Not a whine thread! I think it's fine that people can be assploded in high sec as they are. What confuses me is why so many do it.

I get freighter ganks, mostly that's for iskies but miners puzzles me.

Bare with me here because I know this could be seen as troll bait so first I will lay out my experiences ganking miners.

I tried it for maybe a few days, racked up about 4 orca and 20 or so hulk/mack kills quite a while back. Got bored because it's so easy, tears were not that common and not so tasty compared to pvper tears. All in all I found it lacklustre. Used up my suicide cat/thrasher collection then went back to pewing wt's.

How about you guys that do it permanently? Surely you must be doing this on alts as i can't imagine it enough to sustain playing a main for?

I am genuinely interested, why do you do it?

Because it's fun, obviously. The same reason you do anything in a video game.

So obvious perhaps I should have asked why it's fun instead?

If you partake would you care to elaborate on why it's fun?

To lessen their sense of insignificance. By inciting a response from someone else they can tell themselves they matter and have an effect on the world.

Treat it like sex....

Clumsy, awkward and maybe even a little bit scary at first. Once you get that out of the way, you realize it's fun, exiting, and you want to do it all the time. Big smile

You need a gimmick to get the really tasty tears.

CODE.s quasi-religious RP and Goons Jihad Swarm are good examples of gimmicks that have proved effective at harvesting sweet sweet tears on an industrial scale.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Miners tend to think that deadspace mods and faction ORE Strip Miners are good things to have on their barges. When they drop expect mad profit.

CCP ignore me please, I make too much sense.

I live for the applause, applause, applause.

I live for the way that they scream and howl at me, and the applause, applause, applause.

Some people like real fights Vs people that shoot back, some people shoot miners.

Cheers guys, so far it primarily is less about the shooting and more about the effects afterwards and I'm just terrible at getting that bit then.

because reminding people that High Security doesn't mean 100% safety and that you can and will be punished for not paying attention is extremely satisfying.

Some barges can be ganked for less than their fittings cost. Profit right there. It can also be funny.

Miners have the tools to shoot back, their drone bays aren't restricted to mining drones. Most choose not to, just as most of them choose to not fit their ships with a tank.

Choices have consequences.

5 Hobgoblin II drones aren't going to keep a Hulk from being blown to bits by even just one Gank fit Cat.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.

I support it because it teaches people to use safe Standards and Practices when operating a space vehicle in High Sec

I do not mine and never have.

BUT if I did there is no way I would be stupid enough to tank a mining barge. You would probably have to lose a barge every 2 days to make up for the lost income the tank causes.

Sensibly miners are better off just counting barge replacement as one of the "costs" and ignoring tank.
