Which WINE version?

My question is which version of wine is working for people who have installed the Crucible expansion? I'm assuming since there are very few posts today that the latest WINE 1.3.xx is working fine. Below I've typed some background on my situation. If you can offer some information about the font I'd be obliged.


A few months back a patch caused EVE to stop working. I can't remember when or what exactly was the problem.

To get EVE going again I went from WINE 1.3.xx back to WINE 1.2.3 and there were no problems until today's expansion patch.

Now, when starting the client, the EULA screen is displayed with no text. This is a problem I remember from first setting up EVE a couple years ago involving a privatized font which needed to be downloaded from Microsoft or someone.

I'm using wine-1.3.28 with Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric). The first two patch attempts stalled, but the third went through, completed and patched fine. I got the patch from the normal login procedure, not downloaded from the torrent.

I also had the EULA screen displaying with no text, but I clicked around on it for about five minutes, and eventually it woke up and handed me the text. Scrolling/clicking down to the end also took a while. I don't know whether the issue was on my end or the other end feeding it. I was patching at a high-volume time, so it could have been on the other end. I didn't do anything fancy such as the font-switching you refer to.

After clicking the EULA acceptance it was all fine. I haven't had any serious issues so far.

I like the new font and the new wormhole cosmic sig naming system and just about everything... except I do wish that we could get a danged Gallente battlecruiser (T2 or T3) that does drones as well as the Ishtar! But still none with more drone DPS than a Vexor? It is to laugh.

I probably didn't wait long enough for the new font to be loaded up.

Since my first post I switched to WINE 1.3.31 and the old problem came back. So it was a WINE upgrade, not an EVE patch, that had me downgrade to WINE 1.2.3.

With WINE 1.3.31 I get errors with msvcp80.dll when attempting to run EVE. So, i'll either figure this out or go back down to WINE 1.2.3 and hope the font shows up if I'm patient.

1.3.33. Everything works except sound.

1.3.33 here. Everything is a OK.

I do have the problem of wine blocking the sound of other apps, but that is a past issue of mine that I will resolve some day.

In my case sound from wine is going to pulse but pavucontrol shows that there is now sound at all. I have the same problem with Skyrim though.

1.3.33 here works without glitches.

yup, looks good with WINE 1.3.33. I just had to wait about a minute for the font/text to load up in the EULA. The client seems to take longer to start up each expansion in general.

To solve my errors with msvcp80.dll I renamed a file. Look for the second post by dimesio in the link above.

Work fine on Wine 1.3.33

For the EULA, the text take about 30 seconds to display.

Confirming 1.3.33 is as good as it gets.

And confirming that EULA text takes forever to display.

An hint: if you are impatient - like me - and start wondering what's going on when the EULA text is rendering - like me - then do NOT switch on the "3rd party EULA" tab - like I did!

It'd take forever^2.

I'm using 1.3.33 and sound also works. Eve Voice works (had to use it during the mass test). I turned off the Jukebox. Kept sound enables. Wonderful pewpew sounds! Only thing annoying is the cursor turning into a white box in CQ. Not that I use that much.

Oh, and I'm using Ubuntu 11.4 with Gnome 2

I had some troubles with 1.3.31 and went back to 1.2.3, which is working fine for me now, sound and all (with Jukebox renamed).
