Where do YOU want to take EVE?

Yeah, I saw this other thread - where is EVE going to go? Pok says EVE goes where WE take it. So, I'm asking YOU:

Where do you want to take EVE?

Now, this isn't your immediate plans as a player. This is more like, "If I was KING, EVE would be..."

There's a lot of talk about the present circumstance of huge tracts of null sec held by one interest and rented out to smaller ones. Some don't like this. Some do. Some don't care either way. There WAS the legendary era of Band of Brothers (BoB, maybe you've heard) holding a HUGE chunk of null sec, and squeezing everybody else into a measly corner. What other castles can we build in this sandbox?

For ME? I'd like to get an alliance rolling that manufactures and markets, does incursions and participates in faction warfare. We'd mind our own business and get good at what we do. Should someone come along and try to interfere with that, we'd do what has to be done. Does it call for growth, or expansion. It might. And, we'd certainly need to be up to the challenge.

Maybe your idea doesn't involve null sec at all. Maybe it's a low sec Shangra-La you want. Maybe high sec is your hometown.

What's your idea?

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

I'll bite:

If I had complete control of the development and direction of ccp/new eden, this is a small list of what I would have done:

1) Green light Legion

2) Take a fine tooth comb to eve and gather a list of all the old systems that need to fixed and or replaced and or finished. As well as all the old single thread code areas, and areas of stagnintation that could use a refresh. Figure out how long it would take to do a complete rewrite.

3) Set aside the amount of people and teams I would need to do a full rewrite as fast as possible. If it will take 2 years i'd try to get it to one, but I would have a set decidcaded just to this task.

4) everyone else would 'bridge' eve 1 to eve 2. I.e. all expantions would be fixes for the foreseeable future, and I would add little things just to keep players happy.

5) Eve v 2 would have valk an legion integrated from day one.

6) once the rewrite was complete, i'd have one more small expansion... then announce the rewrite and show it all off, completed.

Then launch...

if this was successful, i'd restart WoD development, but keep it on a strict time table and feature list. Because I do not believe in having all my eggs in one basket.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

1. Station Lock-out mechanics would be removed from Faction Warfare. Completely.

2a. All empire high-sec would be separated by low-sec.
2b. More low-sec systems and high-to-low stargates would be added... preventing too many chokepoints from forming.

3. Supercapitals would be banned from low-sec.

4. Cynos can only be used by "specialty" ships (see: ships with a bonus towards cynos).

5. War declaration mechanics would be revamped.
--- a. It would be cheaper to declare war on a corporation/alliance bigger than yours.
--- b. Defending corp/alliances can add an infinite amount allies to the war at no additional cost/penalty.
--- c. No one may join or drop from either the offending or defending corporation during the duration of the war. edit: You cannot disband the corp/alliance either.

6. The New Player Experience will be revamped.
--- a. Less expositories and detailed mechanical information... more "guidelines to live by."
--- b. Optional voice tutorial. Keep things brief so they can be easily cycled through.
--- c. Create missions that more or less simulate what happens in EVE and have a pop-up explaining what happened right after it happens. (example: one mission gives the newbie a cheap ship and, upon undocking, have NPCs "suicide gank" the newbie... then a pop-up appears and explains what suicide ganking is and some tips to avoid it).

7a. Priority would be given to overcoming the technical hurdles on making Warfare Links on-grid only.
7b. A new destroyer-sized command ship will be introduced to appease the skirmishers, small gangs, and poor people. This ship can only fit 1 link though.

8a. If Walking in Station is introduced, the security mechanics will emulate that of high, low, and null security. That means that people can indeed be ganked and lose all their implants in a station... and no, it will not be "griefing" (unless the gankers focus all their efforts on one person over and over again).
8b. You will only be truly safe in the Captains Quarters.
8c. No, you cannot bring people into your Captains Quarters. You want to be social? Go out and risk getting stabbed.

9. Space will have some random localized effects here and there... which will mostly be slight and largely ignoreable.
Example 1: Stars deal omni-damage to anyone close by... enough damage to make small ships panic but not enough to kill them outright.
Example 2: Being near a planet reduces agility/max speed by 2% or something.
Example 3: Being in an asteroid belt deals 1% damage (based on raw HP, not EHP) to a ship regardless of size... ore ships will be exempt from this.

All development focuses on additional manpower into the ingame browser to facilitate streaming video and moving images, as well as smileys and other emoticons for chat channels. Also, the art department will work on renders that allow your floating corpse in space to look just like your actual avatar does, clothes included, when zoomed in on.

Finally, all Alliance Tournament announcers will do their commentating from above a dunk tank. If they say something really stupid, or repeat the same phrase over and over, they will get dunked. Based on the past couple tournaments, it would probably save time to just put their chairs IN the tank.

I like some of what you're saying, but in addition to the wardec stuff, I would like to see players get kicked out of NPC corps after 6 months. In the system I live in, there are a handful of 7 year old miners, who never left the NPC corp, making them invulnerable. (Yes I realize I could suicide gank them, but why should I have to? Let me wardec them like anyone else...)

I see the self-declared geniuses hijacked the thread. I think the question had to do with game play, not "since I think I'm a code wizard" dream-viations.

I wish to be part of a vast trucking empire with an associated security alliance (that does mercenary work on the side) for the sole purpose of showing gankers a few reasons why suicide ganking may look fun...at first...but, I mean, really.

It would be like a three-dimensional Interstate Highway System to us truckers. We'd know all the best stops, all the best cafes. The guys would know all the loose wimmen. The gals? Well, trucking isn't that highly developed for us, we'll have to see what comes of it.

Gate...after gate....after gate.....after gate....like telephone poles looking like a picket fence.

1, I would like too be-able to build Battle Barges in the game, Since you cant really invade proper into a alliance space without building a port to work out of. We could use 3 types of Battle barges from battle class all the way up to Titian class. We just have no staying power when we invade about nothing real it just ends up endless gate hugging. We need them to lay sage proper against Battle stations and wage proper war.

2, We need better ratting all over 00 space just as good as Cruse systems 3 bs spoons al round.

3, We need real Black op ships or covert ships to fill better rolls as the Black op we have now are nothing but useless in this way. The are really interdictors ship not black ops. Ships all the way from frigs to BS class.

4, We need better jump ships so to work deeper and infiltrate better.

5, We need what I call Black market station here and there about around 00 systems as a gang land pirate system to faction over in 00 systems. These stations should look abandoned messed up looking and not fully able to use shields or work as full stations.

6, We need a black market system with skill for these stations so players who wont to work out of 00 space have some staying power and can dock to fit or buy goods from.

7, Missions don't pay enough out so like maby do better on that.

I guess that's all I can think off that I like to see for 00 right now.

Like I'd trust people who can't discern the topic of the thread they're posting to.
Yeah, keep those "what we need here" posts coming. You know we take them seriously.
Really.)

I'm a simple man, really. I like spending the day slaying Minmatar deviants, then coming home where my slaves have a nice hot bath drawn, and a meal fit for a king prepared. I'd go for the upscale PvP. Wing/flight fleet tactics against enemies who can hang with that, or not. Having a grand mercenary force on call - ship replacement, organized training. That appeals to my style of play.

How the huge space is segmented or run by whom doesn't really interest me so much as leveraging activity within whatever the structure may be. Ultimately? Justifiable pew pew on an expensive scale.

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

  • Fewer HiSec systems.
  • More LoSec systems.
  • More competition and meaningful conflict in HiSec and LoSec.
  • Engaging, meaningful, group-oriented PvE content that is not Incursions or WH sites.
  • Local effects from some stars in K-Space.
  • "New Space" you get to from player-built Stargates.
  • More structures that do cool stuff.
  • Explosions.

I want Hilmar to have a visible role in Eve. He would have his own custom ship with god mode abilities so we can beat up on him continually without him dying.

Edit; Oh, and I would play old saturday morning cartoons on the billboards.

Actually... I imagine high-sec having more or less the same number of systems as it does now... just some new connections and low-sec systems bisecting the different empires.

And I will not even touch level 4s as an issue with a ten foot pole.

Where do I want to take eve? In the direction of empowering ceos and opening up content to players

More corporation tools to allow CEOs to grant roles and permissions to a single hanger/starbase/wallet to individuals or groups.

So for example If you want to allow a particular player to online offline refuel a particular pos, the permission doesn't carry over to the other pos's

assigning permissions to a player to research jobs/build/ at a particular array doesn't carry over to all other arrays (unless you wwant t too)

Im probably not explaining it too well, but the all or nothing approach used currently means that a lot of eve content is not available to new pilots or those not an officer of the corp or a board of directors member.

Eve is the dark haired, totally hot emo gothchild of the gaming community

Few more months and that'll be nullsec. In which case the next expansion should be a lowsec one \o/

+1 to more devs flying about. Not sure about godmode, but if they wanted to abuse their powers I could see some entertainment opportunities. Things like gagging the local hub systems down to a few people, ejecting scammers and spammers randomly into space, snatching up people who engage them into other systems, then requesting they engage in mining duels. Actually I think I'd rather just see players be devs for a day, able to break what they want ingame for an hour or two.

I'd go through every existing feature and overhaul/expand on it.

  • I'd move COSMOS to Epic Arc functionality and have the initial link be based on exploration. I'd move archaeology COSMOS fully to exploration. I'd make all those unique story lines more general and randomized so people will not do the same 'unique' story everybody else does. That would also need procedurally generated mission and exploration content.

  • I'd make hacking and archaeology more distinct, creating opportunities for group play by allowing several players to simultaneously access a mainframe/wreckage from different access points and giving thus an advantage to the main hacker/explorer.

  • Hacking with support will make it easier/possible/feasible to enter deeper areas of the system to gain more rare and valuable information. Every level will unlock more loot but should you fail in a hack you will lose all of it. No more cargo scanning, the loot will be generated via hacking nodes in the mini-game. More types of nodes and deeper levels will emphasize on the design idea of a rogue like.

Archaeology with support will allow you to access areas of the wreck/ruin you wouldn't get in on your own. You will find more puzzle pieces and paper trails to follow through the region/constellation by assembling decryptors, applying them to start maps/logs/data records and follow the created bookmark to a hidden location only you will know about for greater rewards and even more trails that may even lead you cross-region on long expeditions to never before seen places for those untouched caches of artefacts.

  • I'd make missions be created procedurally. No more doing the same set of missions over and over again, every mission will be generated from a collection of set pieces along a seed that adapts to the environment, making every region, system or even agent unique in what will be offered and against whom.

  • Old agent types will be brought back to bring more flair to the missions within their category of security/distribution/mining. Mining category will be changed into industry category and will include production and research agents to incorporate the differing professions within that category while hauling and combat are rather singular. Every agent type will get a agent service specific to their type which can be accessed through the right click menu instead of blocking the mission dialogue.

LP stores will have a reduce choice of items per store but a greater variety between corporations. You will find what the corporation produces or uses in its endeavours, like weapons and ships in navies, implants in cybertech producers, Quafe varieties at Quafe, etc.

Datacore acquisition could be moved from passive accumulation of research points to LP stores of the research companies and require active involvement in the corporation's activities through industry agents. Alternatively a POS structure for outsourced research could be deployed to accumulate datacores.

  • I'd expand mining as described in the thread of mine, including the ideas of others for ring mining and laying claim on the biggest rocks.

  • I'd shuffle the scanner a bit around, moving mining to anomalies, adding a filter between mining and encounter anomalies, move ratting to landmarks that replace static belts, move current mining anomalies back to exploration and move wormholes to their own category so they can be filtered out.

  • I'd replace the POS code and re-create POSes as modular entities you can assemble into a structure through walls, couplings and elevators while access to all connected modules will be centrally as long as you are within the POS shield, have the password in and authorization.

  • I'd re-do the corporation interface, especially the role creation and application, using a more intuitive drag and drop interface and comprehensive tables and information sheets. A collection of presets will make jumping into becoming a CEO easier and less risky with clearer description of what role allows what to be done and how it may affect security. Corporation icons would be expanded, maybe with a event involving player entries for components and AUR rewards for checked and accepted entries.

  • I'd overhaul sovereignty mechanics based on the concepts outlined in my thread and expanded/adjusted with other ideas on the matter, adding a softer, more malleable system that allows smaller fights, raids, subterfuge and betrayal to become part of sov warfare.

  • Every null-sec system will start out at a similar low level, being inferior to high- or low-sec until it is build up and improved, when it will surpass the other areas and may even be better than now if the system is specialized on one endeavour. Planet types and population limits will create a fittings limitation for limited number of improvement slots in the system, while a uneven distribution of planets makes different areas of space differently valuable.

ISK will be more difficult to come by than resources thus requiring export of goods into high-sec where the ISK is to pay for fees and taxes to maintain sovereignty while high-sec will be dependant on the imported goods for their own activities.

[and here I ran out of room]
[to be continued]
