Is this normal

Ok I am a wanna be ganker and have had 2 successful ganks so far. Still learning the ropes etc.
My last attempt was a hulk mining next to an orca. This is how it went down.
I warped to hulk and landed 2km away. o/h and scram and begin shooting the hulk. Hulk was in low armour then next thing I know he has switched out to a skiff from the orcas bay and thus leaving my poor ship to be concorded :(.

Is this a normal mechanic that I need to be aware of ???
Hoping for some help from fellow gankers

Thanks

If the Orca is nearby, you can switch ships.

Yes this is normal. At times a miner is truly AFK and you can gank him successfully. Other times he is quick enough to switch ships.

Making New Eden a better place 8 rounds of Void at a time.

Funny, smartest, pretty and relevant. Pick 3.

In my experience this is a very rare event. If the problem persists just gank people who don't have orcas next to them.

Indeed it is a valid game mechanic. However if it any consolation, most miners either don't know this trick, or aren't at their keyboards, so it is quite rare in my experience. Over the several hundred enforcement actions I have performed on the non-compliant (included many right next to Orcas), I can count on one hand the number of times this has happened to me, and those we all members of a corp that had recently suffered several losses to my activities.

If you are concerned, you can avoid targets sitting right next to Orcas until you are more comfortable, but I think you just got unlucky with that fish. In fact, if you are ganking for profit, you might want to avoid targets adjacent to Orcas anyways to increase your chances of getting away with the loot.

IT's rare, but they do it.

You should pick your targets carefully, mostly those that are away from any nearby Orcas. Or even better, lone wolfs.

Or just have a friend/alt in a stabber give them a mighty pre-gank BUMP :P

Thanks for the replies. Not ganking for profit just for the fun Big smile
Guess I was unlucky as my 1st success was a hulk sitting next to an orca as well.

Live and learn I guess

Thanks
