(Newbie Here) How do i move my ore to a trade hub

Hello fellow Eve Players,

I spend most of my time mining on Eve and i am trying to make the most out of my ores. There is a trade hub 6 jumps away from my home station. My question is how would i go about moving 300.000m3 of ores a day to that trade hub. I have a miasmos with 54k ore cap but that would mean i will spend 2 hours a day just moving ore which wouldnt make moving them for better isk any profitable.

Do i do couriers or compression? any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.


Please note that i want to focus on mining yield on training so dont want to train courier related skills.

assuming you're close to a major trade hub and aren't in a desperate hurry to get it moved, you can move very large piles of stuff for not a whole lot of money via public courier contracts. This saves you a great deal of effort, lets you spend more time doing what makes you money, and also has the added benefit of passing on the risk of loss in case of a gank to whoever takes your courier contract. Use something like this http://www.pushx.net/ to calculate a rate, and then keep in mind that these guys are charging a bit of a premium based on reliability and brand recognition, so you can probably set up a public contract and get it done for even less money with a bit more patience unless you're literally in the middle of nowhere.

Remember, always set the collateral to be worth at least as much as what you're moving (alternatively, set it to slightly below the market value of your items and hope someone else will go through the effort of hauling and selling your rocks for like a 5% cut).


You could also look at joining an Industrial corporation. It's not exactly my area of expertise, but I gather they tend to have offerings like corp hauling or ore buyback programs along with fleet boosters and other such support to help you max out your mining efficiency, with the added benefit of having people to talk to while sucking on rocks. Just don't let yourself get screwed over. If you find a corp that wants to buy your ore at like 75% of Jita prices or something, tell them to **** off and go find some dudes who aren't trying to scalp you.

Either set up courier contracts or train up to be able to use either a freighter (you'll find them in the market under ships -> capital ships -> freighters) or an Orca (ships -> capital ships -> capital industrial ships -> ORE). Personally I would suggest an Obelisk (best tank and enough cargo for your needs). Alternatively an Orca, because in case you intend to continue mining (you really should try out other stuff, too !) and in case you use multiple accounts, the Orca can help your mining by giving boosts.

In any case make sure that your hauling vessel has a proper tank. That means you need to train up Mechanics to L5 (gives structure hp), you also should train Hull Upgrades to L5 (gives armor hp) and Shield Management at least to L4 (gives shield hp). Don't forget Evasive Maneuvering and Navigation to improve align time and speed (Spaceship Command V and Advanced Spaceship Command V are prerequsites for a freighter but if they weren't I'd mention them here anyway.)

Also tank your freighter (or Orca) by fitting appropriate mods (either Reinfoced Bulkheads II which gives the best tank and still leave you with more than enough cargo for your needs or at least some armor plating (T2 variant). Try to avoid using the Expanded Cargohold mod because it hurts your tank a lot ... in effect you would anti-tank yourself and make it much easier for anyone who looks for an easy freighter kill.

You sir have mind reading capabilities, that is the exact situation i am in and why i am looking to move my ore in the first place! But i really like the group of people in the corp so i dont intend to leave. i have another account i was thinking of buying an orca for boosts and moving my ore to trade hub, does that make sense?

I do have 2 accounts i am planning on buyin an Orca account with good refining skills too, i will certainly refer back to your post when i get an Orca. I want to get into manufacturing eventualy, but i am relatively new to this game and there is overwhelming amount of detail on it (not complaining). As of now i have 2 accounts 1 focused purely on mining and the other one on fleet boost. So would it make sense buy a charecter with Orca and refining to get into manufacturing or would you recommend something else?

Orca is a good idea but if I recall correctly it becomes profitable over "simple" mining ships only after you have 3 of them.

Before you can use it and the related boosts you could just buy a cheap, large cargo T1 miner for the "will be Orca pilot" character and just mine and dump to the station. Then you setup some cheap-ish courier contract to a major hub and you are done. There's also a trick to make couriers accept your big volume orders: don't create a 800k m3 contract for 1M, nobody will take it. Usually couriers fill to the maximum of their collateral pretty quick and then have say 600k m3 left and collateral budget almost all full. You can then make a contract for those 600k m3 and they'll gladly take it as "filler" as it's also low collateral and it lets them carry the important value stuff as well.

There is another option. Sell your ore for slightly below the trade hub price.

If you can, calculate the shipping cost as suggested by other posters. Compare that with selling your ore for a few percentage points below the trade hub price. Settle on a price point some where above the shipping cost but below the trade hub.

Chances are, someone who has enough capital to make that few percentage points worth while, because they are dealing with very large volumes, not only will find your offer attractive but quite likely has the means to move the ore themselves.

If you notice that same individual make multiple purchases over a couple of weeks, contact them directly and see if you can come up with a deal to sell directly to them at some fixed percentage below the trade hub price.

If you're producing in high volume, in the same region as a market hub, you don't need to worry too much about selling it /in/ the hub, as long as your price is a little lower. (and it can be easier to sell, as you don't have to play so many 0.01 isk games. people in trade hubs tend to just try and beat the price in the hub)

If I need a lot of minerals, and I can see it nearby, I can be willing to move a bit. As long as it's a high number. a million trit wouldn't cut it. 40 million, on the other hand.. Smile

I actually overpay for minerals (via buy orders) at my build station which is 2j from a hub. If Trit is 5.67-5.73 spread at Dodixie, I'll post a buy order at my station for 25 million units at 5.74 ISK.

Now if I needed three billion units, I'd instead post a buy order in Dodixie for 5.68 per unit, then pay a useful idiot (sorry, I believe the polite term is public courier contractor) to haul it for me at terrible rates.


If you want to see just how low courier contractors will move things for, look up my public courier contract history. My recent record for an awful contract is 16j, through lowsec, for 16, 000 ISK. (Granted, that was an Interceptor or shuttle sized parcel and a low collateral, but still...) . Frequently I get contracts done for under the 10000 ISK in fees you need to pay to post one.

If it's urgent, pay 1% of the collateral, plus 0.05% of the collateral per jump in highsec. (Collateral should be 115% of replacement value, plus 50-100% of any consequential loss you will suffer from a very delayed delivery). If it is not urgent, pay utter and total rubbish rates, one tenth of that or less. Your stuff *will* get moved as long as the total collateral is under two billion and it fits into a tanked freighter.

Note that after Crius, people will increasingly want to by compressed ore rather than just minerals. Compression will help you move the minerals easily AND probably get you a price premium. Compression can be done in Rorqual or a "Compression Array" at POS. Ref: http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/reprocess-all-the-things/

This is one option. I, however, will continue to buy minerals as I have no intention of training refining on any of my characters. There will be markets for both minerals (for people like me) and compressed ore (for export to sovereign nullsec in particular).
