Hi.

Just want to say hi to the community. I just started yesterday.

I downloaded the game a few times over the years since 2009. But every time I joined I couldn't get into the game even though I want to.

Now that I'm older and smarter and more patient, I'm interested and ready to play.

Welcome! o/

Trying the game on and off for a few years is pretty common. Hopefully this time around you'll get hooked! Pester us all you like, most people in EVE are quite nice and helpful, even if they are trying to kill you.

Just a few tips I like to give to help retain you this time around.

- Eve is a social game. Doing certain things in the game might seem repetitive and boring, but throw a few friends into the mix and it can get quite fun. Check around for the right corporation or organization that best suits what you want to do in the game. Even if that means going through 4 or 5 before you find the right one.

- Make sure to read through all the tutorials (if you haven't done them already). The include a lot of basic information that is taken for granted in other MMOs, but Eve isn't like other MMOs.

- Most of all, Eve is what you make of it. Once completing the tutorials, it is quite easy to feel lost, unguided, or completely overwhelmed. Don't ask yourself "what am I supposed to do?", ask "what do I want to do?"

Have fun and fly safe!

Lol my problem in the past was that the game was too confusing. Spent hours just trying to figure out how to leave the station. So I left. I never went passed the tutorials

Welcome aboard Big smile

The tutorials are a fair bit better than they used to be. There's plenty of out of game information to help you along the way, I'd recommend Eve Uni's wiki as a good place to start if you get stuck.

If you have questions then this forum is the place to post them, in NCQA we're pretty welcoming and helpful to newbies, and the mods are swift to act upon bad advice and trolls*

How to win EVE:
1. Do the tutorials, and take the time to actually read, understand, and remember all the boring info they give you.
2. Join an active corp and make friends. [there are many corps open to rookies, including EVE University, Brave Noobies Inc.]
3. Have fun, whether you win or lose.

Generally people that quit EVE, do so because they try to play it like other games. EVE really only has player generated content, so if you aren't creating content, or looking for content (it is easier to find with more friends too), you will quickly get bored.

I'm one of the rare cases that can derive enjoyment from the most mundane things, so I manage to be solo, but it does get "old" at times. Do find some friends for maximum enjoyment of EVE!

EVE is more about the people than about spaceships.

P.S. Feel free to EVE-mail me questions if you don't want to post. I'll do my best to answer them.

You join a corp by sending them an application, unlike in other MMO's you or CEOs can't just spam people with invites.

I dont understand how EVE University works. I just got denied. They said they require a 8.0 standing. Which looks like it takes alot of time to get. So..... I only got like a 2.0 so far. So much for letting new guys join.

That sucks.

I imagine it probably isn't too hard to get the standings required though. Maybe the basic knowledge and experience you'll gain in doing so is a prerequisite for them?

Dunno. Has been years since I missioned or had to worry about standings, and the only thing I know about EVEUni is they pos-up when you shoot at their POCOs.

Welcome back to Eve. In my own experience, the best way to find what's special about Eve is to head to null-sec. Join a corp in a battle-tested alliance, and you'll start to get a sense of what keeps so many veterans interested. Fights have underlying meaning, goals are real, and non-arbitrary, and the bonds between corpmates gets stronger.
Missions and high-sec, by contrast, is quite boring and bereft of meaning. But that's just my opinion. ;)

Welcome back.

I'm just back today from a 5 year hiatus and have to relearn everything.

I'm just a newb in a ghost corp with several exhumers and an Apocalypse ...

Missions are indeed boring and bereft of meaning, but there's plenty more to do in highsec than just PVE. I prefer highsec for the ability to hunt prey at times of my choosing, unlike having to defend structures at weird and wonderful hours of the day.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com
