I bought a Mammoth ship.
Got Miner II for him.
Next slot was supposed for weapon, but i cannot put any on this ship.
So i put there Salvager I, who knows, may be i can be lucky to find some usable loot.
So i went to Mine. At high sector.
But there i met pirates npc.. I don't have any weapon.
I cannot mine. After half hour was lucky to find another guy, with weapons, near asteroid belt, so
i was able to mine about 45 minutes. And when he gone, just faced same problem.
Help me to solve it plz!
How i should mine in this game, and with what?

Mammoth is not a mining ship. It's a hauler. It's designed to move large quantites of stuff from one place to another.

Get a Venture.

Get yourself a Venture, which is free from one of the industry tutorials, as is the mining frigate skill book IIRC.

Using a Mammoth to mine is like trying to cross the Atlantic ocean in a rubber dinghy, it can be done, but it's generally quite a silly idea.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Hmz

Did you do the tutorial?
Did you read the description of the Mammoth?

As said, it's not a mining ship, I still don't see why people make that mistake. Specially now that you have a f-ing mining frigate which you get for free in the tutorials.

Not to mention that tutorials also mention something called Hardpoints (hint: Not every high slot is designed for a weapon).

It's more important to read the bonuses and traits of a ship. The Venture has an ore hold that isn't as big as a hauler's but is big enough for you not to have to unload every 5 minutes. Plus you get much more ore per minute.

CCP ignore me please, I make too much sense.

Yes always look at the traits of each ship. Besides skill bonuses that imply what a ship is good at, the icons and symbols there will tell you exactly what the ship is meant for when you mouse over them.

While mining with large cargo SOUNDS like a good idea, you'll make hardly any money because all the cargo ships can only fit one mining laser (except for Hoarder but it has an ammo bay instead of normal cargo)

Also high slots are not all weapon slots, turrets and missile hardpoints are a separate stat from the high slots. They still use a high slot though.

Unlucky for you, it's not how stuff works in EVE.

There are MANY MANY attributes to a ship you have to into account.

Hell, as Xercodo said, CCP dumbed it down enough that you now have icons to help you spot what a ship is intended to be used for (keep in mind: intended. This doesn't mean that you must use it in that way, but it is most likely the way to go)

If that was true, then carriers would be excellent mining ships.

If you want to mine, you look for a ship that has bonuses that are relevant to mining, like 10% bonus to mining laser yield per level.

I was more thinking about freighter with assisted Mining Drones

train umm drones. use them with an actual mining ship as mentioned above. er I mean combat drones, the posts above the above post that mention using a mining ship. mining ship + combat drones etc. Freighters should mostly be used for freight.

Confirming that the Venture is an efficient mining ship, and pretty hard to hit when it is moving.

This used to be very true. Cargohold had to be big. Damn canflippers....
An industrial with 1 mininglaser did great in 0.9 or 1.0 Below that you run into belt npc's that cause trouble for haulers.

Non-mining ships have become... useless at mining. You want to get yourself a venture (mining-frig) or a barge (mining-cruiser). Both shiptypes use drones to deal with those belt-rats.
