In-game re-authorization

We who have a - relatively - unreliable ISP (who says his ISP is 100% reliable - is lying, pod him) from time to time see the "Connection lost" window. We curse, maybe burn some ISP office bulding in our imagination, and hatefully hit the damned "Restart" button. We go through the painful process of reloading the login screen into the memory, logging in, fully reloading the environment we left, again,.. just to see that our beloved ship is no more, or our friends have gone several jumps away (or we're in a fresh pod 40+ jumps away, sh** happens).

My point is, wouldn't it be wonderful if instead of this painfull process, the client just froze, a small window appeared asking the password, we logged in (without reloading the whole client anew) and after very short re-sync just continued playing? In many cases a connection loss lasts only a few seconds, for other cases we could have a second cheaper ISP (cell phone as a modem, etc etc etc).
In other words, in a little bit better world, this situation would look like this: you get disconnected, wait a few seconds or - better - switch to your secondary ISP, re-enter your password in a small window in the frozen client, 1-2 seconds for re-sync, and you happily continue shooting/mining/moving stuff.

EDIT.

+1

A simple 'reconnect' button would be sufficient, no need to enter the password again.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Definitely want the username and password to be there for security reasons, but otherwise yeah, this would be very useful.

EvE-Mail me if you need anything.

The launcher does this. Of course, the launcher pulls slight amounts of bandwidth constantly, which can anger some more unreliable ISPs, making them more unreliable.

Granted, it doesn't do it automatically.

Yeah, why would I have the launcher window open ... already got enough other things running, don't need that in the list too.

+1 for a better disc window. Or that clicking restart really restarts and not just drops you back to desktop.

Because it allows you to go log back in without retyping your password?

Make an option "Persistent sessions", when you go offline EVE acts as if you are offline, but the session persists so when you again have a connection, the session is automatically re-initiated.
Would also make it possible to use eve on a laptop and not have to worry about hibernation.

Add 10 seconds (1 minute max) per pilot that used this function in the same solar system in during the past 60 seconds. (logintrap prevention).

Yes, right.
Just freeze the client without any unload from the memory and without re-loading anything. Except a very short re-sync with the server.

And after pressing the button the client just unfreezes, re-syncs with the server normally, and you continue playing. No restart, no character selection, etc.

Not sure if I understand what you said.
I hope you mean that quick reconnection should be available at the very least within a 1-minute timer (except if the player uses the "safe log-off" feature).

In the best case, the client just should freeze up and remain so as long as there is any log-off timer going (normal default timer, npc aggression log-off timer, pvp log-off timer). In other words, if the ship is still in space - the client should just freeze without unloading anything from memory and without forcing you to character selection screen or whatever window outside the actual in-game environment.

No. Well yes, it allows you avoid retyping. But retyping your password takes much much less time than reloading the client itself. If, for you, typing a password takes more time than reloading the client - your typing skills are too low and you should train them (consider learning the blind-typing with all fingers).

The main problem of disconnection is, as I've stated earlier, that currently it makes you reload the whole client. The launcher doesn't help with that: it makes you close the client, too. And as a side note, if you try pressing "Play" in the launcher while the network connection is down its login part locks down forcing you to restart it.

So no, the launcher is completely useless in this case.

Offtopic: I prefer copy/pasting passwords. 3 reasons for that: 1) I don't want to remember 4-5 completely unreadable passwords of 8-15 digits; 2) if I let some malware into my pc which can steal passwords from the clipboard or files then a keylogger can also be there, typing my passwords I won't get any more security than copy/pasting them; 3) if I don't have to memorize 4-5 passwords I can regenerate and change them every month or even everyday.

Totally agree with that thing.

We want te be able to reconnect faster.

In case of session shutdown while fighting, each second is crucial.
