Is it completely pointless to start again?

After a year and a half or so of a break, I decided to have another go at eve today. However, it seems that the game is in a worse state then ever before. I spent the entire day trying to escape null sec, losing two ships. When I finally made it out I decided I would go back to my mining ways in .5 - .7 systems. Sadly, I cannot find a single asteroid belt available after hours of searching. I'm on the verge of just writing the game off permanently at this point. Is there something I'm forgetting? Are all the belts really that over mined that there are practically none available in such a vast game world? I've filtered and search through highly inactive systems as well, I don't understand. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Ugh

Yeah, get your ass out of Caldari space.

Plenty of asteroid belts in high-sec to mine in, sure you have to move more then 10 jumps from Jita / Caladari space for it.

p.s. First in another EVE is dying thread.

Have you tried mining in wait for it, I know this is impossible and very hard for you to try. Have you tried mining in lowsec? So many roids on the belts it aint funny.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

I have absolutely no problems finding the rocks I want in 0.6 and lower. Just make sure you stay away from super-populated areas such as the space near Jita, and very high-sec systems.

As for null space, I've heard that it's really only worth the effort if you live there. If you want the most ISK/hr, find a quiet low-sec system with a dock and fit a Proc with a tank.

Find more remote parts of the game. You will find more opportunity there.

Of course, this also means that you have to transport stuff around more often... which opens you up to risk.

If you want to mine in places that have more competition then remove that obstacle... either by joining up with the people who strip mine all the optimal belts, killing them, or hiring someone else to kill them.

Uh, what? I feel like there must be some sort of user error at play here. ****** up overview settings, or something.

I just logged in an alt to look at hi sec and he happened to be in a Caldari .5 system - Otitoh. Belts looked plenty populated to me.

That aside, even if what you believe to be the case were actually true, I don't really see how, "Aw, shucks, I can't be an internet-space ditch digger, guess this isn't even worth playing," makes sense, really. Mining is for suckers.

I must be doing something wrong. Mining only a few jumps from Jita.

In amarr space, I have never once seen a belt mined out, at any point of the day.

Just to eb nice, ill tell you, Hiroudeh, has an Emperor family station, is like 6 jumps from Amarr if I recall (whos trade hub is emperor family, so you onyl need one corporation for sales tax and refining efficiency) and has another .5 next door that ALSO has a shitton of belts.

mine more then 3-4 jumps from a noob/trade hub, youll be fine.

trying to run out of nullsec is usually a pretty good way to get killed. Hell that was one of my first losses, never mind it was because my interceptor made it some 20 jumps to the gate into empire but managed to bounce off it out of jump range.

also my home system is just off of the Jita - Amarr pipeline and every belt had ore in in when I just looked. That said: mining in highsec is well, probably not a good use of time.

it seems to me that the game is in one of its best states yet. I'll admit I've been on the fringes for a while but there seems to be a ton of awesome going on. I feel there are still a few things that need work, and I'll admit I have a few questions, but as to that I imagine only CCP has the answers.

I would suggest trying out null-sec in this go-around with Eve. Getting involved with a cohesive and organized group of pilots who work toward common goals, and have the experience to execute well, makes all the difference. Generally, Null-sec entities have a preponderance toward possessing that organizational effectiveness, through survival of the fittest. Plus, a group of organized players has such a vast advantage over a single player that solo play ought to be avoided, unless you really feel you know exactly what you're doing.

Just make sure you choose a group who fit your social preferences - I have found that it's not so much what you're doing, in Eve, so much as it's who are you doing it with. Whether it's mining or gate camping, grinding incursions or grinding sovereignty structures, you will either enjoy or not enjoy it almost entirely based on how pleasant it is to fly beside your corp- or alliance-mates.

Confirming this, I occasionally mine 1 or 2 jumps from this route, very rarely do I find nothing in the belts. There's also entire highsec constellations within 5 or 6 jumps of the trade hubs that have fat belts and very few players.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

You returned after a year break and you expect to be ....... good? DUDE, the human brain simply doesn't work that way. Skills and knowledge that are not used degrade over time. You return after a year break and pop into null sec and your going to get your arse handed to you.

Leave null go to low sec in HAC. Kill Mordu pirate NPC's, find BPC for new ships, sell at outrageous prices, profit.

Why did you stop for a year and a half? That's a long time. Now and then I take a break for a couple months or so, but a year and a half is more than a break. Maybe time to try something else in the game besides mining? You could look this over http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/ and see what else may interest you. You could even start an alt and start with some interesting things that work well with a low SP character. Since you have been inactive, the game of alts has gotten much better, and you might stumble into something that will keep you playing for the next year and a half rather than vanishing away again.

I'm in it for the money
