Hi, I recently joined a new corp and they live in Caldari space and told me they are generally fighting against Guristas and Angel rats. Previously I was usually fighting Serpentis and I was flying a Navy Dominix with t2 sentry or heavy drones. However, I would like to switch to a more active playstyle for my missioning.

I would like to use a ship that uses railguns mainly due to the new buff, and I am also best skilled in Gallente ships with some caldari crosstraining on the side. However, I see that Angel rats do primarily explosive damage which means on Gallente ships I won't be able to get such good resists. Also, the best damage to deal to Angels is explosive, which hybrid damage doesn't do!

I am wondering if someone with some experience can chime in and drop me some advice/fits, it would be much appreciated.

Well you say you want to use railguns, but you want to do explosive damage, so you need to decide which of those is more important first.

I fly a regular Dominix which works just fine against Angels (they're weak against kin too). Fit your domi out with a full rack of rails and use T2 bouncers and you have yourself a very nice mission boat vs. Angels. A gank shield fit for missions is by no means 'passive' mode in missioning. You'll constantly be shooting and locking new targets, usually destroying faster than you can lock.

It won't perform anywhere near as well as something like a Mach or a Vargur though, so bear that in mind, but if you want to use rails the Dominix is the best option for you. It's the only ship that can also use bonused pure damage sentries together with those rails. Unless you count the Ishtar, which is an option, but would only be a lower dps version of the Domi that moves faster.

If you want a fun, active playstyle missioner that can adapt well to all rat types, then you're looking at a Mach or a Vargur.

This one time, I like, totally did some stuff.

Well I was wanting to use rails really just because I have been training for T2 larges for the last few days so it will be a bit annoying just to change. Can you please post your fitting? This is what I have right now:

This is cap stable without the AB, or lasts 5m26s with AB on.

It will take me a while to get a mach, but how about a Maelstrom?

Railguns will work fine for Angel and Gurista.
Kin is #2 vs Angel and Guristas are weak to Kin and Therm.

VS Angels a gunboat works fine, but vs Guristas you can run-into problems because they will jam you a lot.

My fav "cheap" ship is the Hyperion. It works awesome vs Angels, but honestly Guristas can be troublesome if they jam a lot.

When you fight Guristas, I would stick with your Dominix because you can continue applying dmg with your drones if you get jammed. It will also work well vs the Angels.

If you want a little variety, I would definately recomend you try the Hyperion for the Angel missions, (it's also a rock-star vs Serpentis). You will have to fly-it TOTALLY different than your Dominix however.
Here's what I've been using for a while now:
http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/57350-Hyperion-quot-Memphis-quot-1046DPS-425mm-L4-Hybrid-Ganker.html
When you fly this, use your AB to stay out of gun-range of your targets if possible. This tactic works well vs Angels because they have such a short-range, they can still hit you with missiles, but it's not a lot of dmg, and it's ALL explosive. (Hint, hint, fit 2 ex hardeners.) This thing also decimates Serpentis because most of them also have a short-range and low resists to Kin/Therm.

If you have the ISK/Skills for the Mach, it's also an awesome gunboat, but still has weaknesses vs jamming.

In conclusion, I would recomend keeping your Dominix for vs the Gurista, and it will also work well vs the Angel. If you want something to "shake-it-up" try my Hype fit for fast, gunboat, ganking, missions since you already have good Rail skills.

Thanks, that is helpful. Damn annoying about the jamming Guristas though, I had no idea..

I have a similar question along these lines. I'm currently using a CNR (not maxed skills, but T2 cruises, 2 days from Caldari BS V and including a smattering of faction mods).

I know that the Mach is supposed to be one of the best. How much of an upgrade would it be from the CNR, and at what skill level does it become worthwhile (Gallente and Minimatar BS V and T2 guns, or even at BS IV and T1 guns?). Thanks for the input.

Its times like this that I wish the Rattler had a double damage bonus ,like the Bhaal/nightmare/Marauders, to its 4 weapon slots. rather than a range/velocity bonus. Then you'd get decent DPS from your highs.

But with 4 launchers with no damage bonus, its just an AFKsnake. You won't get much more out of it by using it actively and actually locking and firing at targets.

If you take sentries why do you need an AB?
