Why does the expanded probe launcher need so much CPU?

It's nuts. On some ships you have to sacrifice a high slot or two, even though you have a utility high free. I really wish they would lower its requirements or give a ship a role bonus to use the damned thing. What?

The single most useful scanning item in the game should be easier to use and the fact that all ships with scanning bonuses give it bonuses isnt enough?

I don't know what you're trying to do with it exactly, but the regular core probe launcher I requires like 15 cpu and scans your data/relic sites just fine. Generally you take a cov ops if you want to combat scan.

Edit: Even with CPU management IV you can fit up a heron with t1 expanded probe launcher, cloak, mwd and have some spare CPU left. Can't fit scanning upgrades to all the midslots though, but it's a t1 ship so you gotta sacrifice something.

Because it would be seriously OP if it was easily fittable to any ship out there.

Think about combat ships. The way it is now, you need either a friend,
or you switch ships, or gimp your fitting. But there are a few bigger ships
that work fine with it.

With good fitting skills and a Co-Processor II, you can totally fit an Expanded Probe Launcher, a Cloak, a MWD, and some upgrades. At least with my skills/implants I can.

I haven't gone probing in a while so I'm not sure how big of a deal it is, but on a rifter you don't get the scanning bonuses.

EDIT; Op, train everything in engineering to lvl5 and watch how easy it gets to fit ships.
