The general settings tab in the ESC menu has sliders for the delay on tooltips. It has a pretty wide setting range so if you just make the delay really long it's basically off.

That also increases the delay on important things like overheat stats when you mouse over modules. That's the sort of information I want, not a tooltip telling me that the "Asakai safe" bookmark is the Asakai safe bookmark. Customization as per audio settings would be great.

Thing is the older ones were better and more informative while also being unobtrusive.

Devs at CCP really suffer from the sunk cost fallacy. The changes need to be rolled back--specifically the bracket system--but instead they will just waste time trying to improve the bad lists in space idea.

It was working before patch now it is items and fitted modules that are not affected by the delay switch. I liked the old mouse overs but flying blind is fun too. Waiting for the pop up to go away makes the game a lot more challenging... Oh wait was that a good thing? I don't know I need to stop using the mouse I guess... Bad me

Is that my two cents or yours?

No delay can fix the bad inherent in this change.

I do wonder if we play the same game tbh.

Unfortunately your suggestion hinders useful information as well. Right now, mousing over a gate that says "Jita" will pop out a box that says "Jita." Likewise with the station. Mouse over the station, and a box leaps out that says what you already know. The same system will give me useful information such as how fast I go with an Afterburner, what my resistances look like with a module, or what have you. Around the modules, it's kind of handy information. Around the overview, it's redundant garbage. :(

Tooltip turn off for modules and items are in the HUD while in space... Beyond my logic there

Is that my two cents or yours?

It's an "Off" setting - not reinvention of the wheel.
Why do you have to continually be so obtuse CCP Rise? I mean, good grief - just implement it already. Admit that this was an oversight, suck it up, apologize - and then fix it.

I've got neighbours I can't stand. I can delay how long it is between seeing them, but it's not the same as not ever seeing them again.

In other words having a long delay is not the same as not seeing them at all.

Can you bring back the bug that made it possible to disable all tooltips by zooming in and out on the map really fast? That got patched before I could make use of it.

OP wholeheartedly supported.

I wouldn't mind if they offered useful information on top what already is known, but they don't do this.

e.g. I don't need a pop up telling me that my shields, hull and armour are at 100% when I've already set the hud to display this for in anycase. As others have said it's redundant information. I also don't need to know 'visit the regional market to buy and sell assets' when i've clicked the button enough times to know that its the button for the market.

It would be useful for noobs, so I propose that tooltips switch off after say a month's gametime as most people will be familiar with the user interface by then or swtch off after a set number of appearances based on how often an element is used, with the option to reset or re-enanable tool tips in the 'escape' options panel.

What would be useful but currently isn't enables is tooltips in local, when I move the mouse over a name in my condensed local window it would be nice to see things like the player's corporation or a thumbnail of their image etc as this would provide useful information as you can tell a lot about a character by looking at it's picture.

Tooltips killed my ship today.

I've bug reported it, but I'm putting it here for discussion. The interface froze when I was hitting a complex in null with some friends and nothing would respond. I had my mouse over the icon to an asteroid belt to warp to as an escape but the tooltip didn't render and my interface crashed. I couldn't activate any modules but the right click menu would will still work, but not quick enough it seems. I havent changed any of the default settings for tooltip delay or anything like that. they are as per the default install.

The other time this happened I was mining in lowsec when some guys came through looking for an easy kill, I was lucky with that one. I logged out and restarted the client and thankfully my ship was still there so I was able to safe spot otherwise tooltips would have killed my twice lol.

Anyhow it's not a big loss, but has this happened to anyone else?

Edit: I've also noticed some other user elements rendering poorly or slowly, such as logging in and seeing my ship rapidly zoom in and out in the hanger view multiple times per second for like 2 seconds.

I think everyone here could ultimately agree that we feel this feature makes perfect sense especially for those that are new to the game. We all want new players so we applaud CCP trying to make things easier.

BUT, this was done to a bit of an extreme to create tooltip spam without any functionality to customize or limit specifically tooltips.

This clearly just needs to be fixed. You are no longer just helping the new players but massively pissing off all old characters...

Hear us, though, CUSTOMIZATION would be nice not just a "tool tip off/on" switch.

I have to disagree with this. What new player doesn't know the standard "x" at the top right corner of every window in every OS and every game with windows closes said window? This may seem like a minor point, but the implication someone who works for CCP thought it would be possible for someone to play EVE before ever using any sort of modern electronic device should frighten you.

Is there an off button yet? I'm really getting annoyed when I try to drag something and that stupid window comes up.
