You won't stop the scamming - Being a backhanded jerk is a choice you're allowed to make in EVE.

I would like to see CCP being a bit more proactive about warning people that this is actually allowed and going on before they start playing. New players will always come into contact with the game before they find the community, so a community solution isn't really effective.

Scamming is 100% legit. it's the spamming of Local chats that kills it.

Please make sure you have all your facts before posting, as you do have a mechanic to stop this behavior.

I can even show you how:

In the chat window, right click the spammer's name/image, either in the channel population list or the offending text itself. From there, you go down and select "block" and BAM, no more spam.

The real problem is the lack of creativity with the scammers. Back when I joined, it was fun seeing all these little loophole people were using to convince you to send them money whenever I was in a trade hub.

Now it's all the same thing all over. Isk doubler, mystery prize box, triple contracts and the "hilarious buy order mistake".

PLEASE, more diversity, you're all boring.

How not to be a "victim" in an easy to read format

ISK doublers

  • Block ISK doublers using the right click menu ingame (there's your mechanic right there)
  • Decide whether or not the deal looks too good to be true
  • Don't be a greedy dumbass.

Dodgy contracts

  • Read the contract carefully, double check it and then triple check it
  • Decide whether or not the deal looks too good to be true
  • Don't be a greedy dumbass

Margin trading scams

  • Check the market history and the estimated value
  • Decide whether or not the deal looks too good to be true
  • Don't be a greedy dumbass

Notice the common themes in all three instances

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

ISK doubling is just the most blatant form of extortion. You should reserve real outrage for people like me who come into your systems and relist everything on alts, or across a region. I'd mess about at the hub level but it's hard work beating the traders who are already doing it. Still setting Blueprint contracts with 1000% markup and dictating market prices is easy enough, and only one person ever contacted me to call me names (he still bought the prints lol). So much fun being a legitimate scrooge.

I've always wondered if it's possible to 1v1 an ISK doubler though, and win decisively. They look too close to RPers to me though, wouldn't touch.

Sorry to disagree hun, but its not extortion.

Extortion (also called shakedown, outwresting, and exaction) is a criminal offense of obtaining money, property, or services from a person, entity, or institution, through coercion...... (and) involves the verbal or written instillation of fear that something will happen to the victim if they do not comply with the extortionist's will.

Nothing will happen if you don't give them your isk in the first place

The scams in Jita have been the same for the past 5 years at least. Please show me those great creative scams that were pulled back in the ancient times.

At least 100 people say the same thing as you in Jita, every day. Now that's what I call boring, especially since you can't come up with anything better yourself (it isn't your fault, there's only so much that you can do with contracts - mainly waiting for some poor rich dude who can't or doesn't want to read.)
