I've had interesting discussions on these forums.

Some posters are bad, some posts may be offending to some, some posts are in bad taste etc. That's nothing special.
I can handle that, it's not that difficult.

Offending post? Why take it personally, it's just an internet troll. If it gets annoying, block the character.
Post in bad taste? My opinion of the poster just went down a notch. But seriously, you can't be protected from bad taste all the time. Let it go, getting all worked up over it will only worsen your mood and not do anything else.
Interesting discussion thread getting derailed? It happenes. Skip over the off-topic posts and post ontopic again. It's not that hard to dismiss off-topic posts within a few seconds. Sometimes off-topic discussions develop about topics which are related and interesting as well. That's not a bad thing either, imo.

Now, I don't see how all of this would make discussions impossible.
As said, I've seen interesting discussions.
Even in the link you've posted, the OPs topic was addressed and questions answered on the first page.
It works for me.

Only threads I have seen trolled into a truly unrecognizable mess were one of two kinds:
1. One of many duplicates of the favor of the week topic, often enough with several posts on the first page pointing this out or even pointing to the main thread.
2. Threads where the original question was already resolved, where the discussion was basically dead because nobody found something new to add to it. But then the thread already served its purpose anyway.

Trolling occurs in any groupdiscussion. Its normally something like; "cos doing X will work" being said sarcastically.

Forums and anonymity removes a large part of the need to be polite. You're not in the same room, you don't know each other etc. Some still stick to it, others embrace their new "freedom" and let go of any pretense to be civilized.

If we move things the other way around;
Somebody you don't know, will likely never meet and whose existence influences yours in the very small way it does through EVE writes an "unkind" remark. Or even worse; goes off-topic....

If that's too much for posters, then most discussions will be out of their league. The rest of the adults will see a very large amount of cool responses and interesting replies. They will also accept that a mass amount of trolling may be in fact a way of telling "this is a bad post bro".

If you want to be told you're awesome and always right - talk to your friends.

Then why post in GD? Oh to get more thread views and posts to the threads? Or some activism thread? Like people do with their ideas which they put here to get more views rather than putting them in the ideas discussion forum? There are other forums you know... And it's true, people get all upset if things just don't go their way, not what they were expecting. Then they get all out of whack "CCP didn't answer my special questions and I only got these stupid trolls boohoo". Well, these are community forums, act like it. If you want to ask CCP questions, send them an email. I have in the past and got my question answered, some server questions. If you expect too much out of forums you are just going to get all upset and make silly threads that wind up locked. As for newbies, there are the newbie forums, and usually really helpful.

There are trolls on the internet, yes, there are trolls on Eve-O, there are also bad posts on Eve-O, the OP is claiming that the reason only a few % of people go to forums is because of trolls....and that no-one is ever banned. If this was the case, then you would not get so many bad posts because individuals avoiding the forums because of trolls would actually read devblogs and the "useful" forums, and not be surprised by ingame mechanics.

There is a report button for posts which break forums rules. Press it, send a report, then if you feel a post was a troll one, for the love of cake, do not respond to it, further taking the thread off-topic, and, feeding the troll.

If you think people do not get forum banned, then you are not paying attention enough.

I understand where your coming from, lots of times even if its a bad Idea I just want a discussion and to develop the concepts, and most of the time anything I suggests gets destroyed.

But in all fairness some of the people posting have given great insight as to why it wont work or swung me to their side and I concede and learn from it. sometimes I just miss how something can be abused.

BUT the majority of posts are trash, their not constructive, not conducive to any kind of mutual understanding and generally are just open to dickheadery.

Don't get me wrong sometimes its deserved to a degree - but I feel with more stringent bullying/trolling and pointless post rules. with moderators who completely destroy the spammers, pointless replies or downright disgusting responses people put with forum bans and posting restrictions, the attitude here will soon change.

If something has come up before it doesn't automatically make the point moot. people come up with different ideas but here on the forums? everything anyone could ever think of has been discussed so anything anyone new can bring is automatically s**t and requires you to log in and slag off someone attempt at explaining a point in detail by telling them they deserve to die.

after all, no new ideas or changes = progress to the majority of the scummy part of the community on the EVE forums.

Frankly put I am only on here just to chat with people posting things up to alleviate the dead feeling posters get when you post something and get nothing but crap back I feel like were I in a room with the entire community most of them wouldn't be as scummy to peoples faces as they are on the retribution-less, unpolished world of these forums.

What bothers me about statements like this is its easy to say across a computer, If in real life I were spoken to the way people obnoxiously post here on the forums and shrug it off as HTFU I feel like hitting them with a scaffold pole would soon make them realise manners and a polite constructive comment would go a lot further then the crap people come out with here.

There is no effective facility to deal with it. You essentially have to ignore it. the comments that don't relate, the posts that have nothing to do with the OT, we cant delete them. but we can get our threads shut because of them.

I already did, three of them, with a fourth having a fair chance of going that way in a couple of years if it comes back. That doesn't mean that what you said makes any kind of sense and it does mean that you are massively overreacting, especially to the people you were responding to since they said nothing about that disease.

I don't care if you're pissed or why. All you're doing here is trying to pick a fight; you're trolling. If you want to get the frustration out of the system, just go smartbomb Jita IV-4 or pick a fight unannounced and above all realise what you're doing and why — don't start projecting it onto other players.
