got chain killed as a noob trying to go on shopping runs in curse, discovered highsec as a result, & discovered it was a lot more fun. I keep a jump clone at my old home station and regularly visit the 300 mil ISK worth of NPC loot and salvage in my hangar. (who says it needs to go anywhere)


don't make nullsec a priority, then. by now i'm seeing a trend of someone who allows themselves to admit defeat / accepts defeat.


Ah, this is the one I quoted your post into separate items. just curious, was it me? I used to roam for 4/10s in high sec with a gang consisting of: 1 harpy for the loot grabber, 2 oracles, 1 buzzard, 2 scimitars, 1 link booster (siege/skirmish), and an orca. the contested ones were the -best-


I found myself wondering just a couple hours ago whether the real reason some people stay and most leave is competition among other players... and if it's true whether subscriptions are something CCP could ever control.

meaning: EVE is hard because you have to play by the same rules as everyone else, and where you place among them is relative, not absolute. play smarter, harder, more creative... do something, anything to be the best you can at playing -your- game.

This is where I realize: how one plays EVE might be a mirror into how one moves through life..

don't compare your progress with anyone else's. your timeline, influences, and capabilities are not the same as anyone else, so don't lock your opinion or perception of other people with those of your own.

I would blow my own mind from when I got chain killed as a clueless noob, and that's very, very special to me. and you know what else, man, you will always be the only person you can gloat to and not cause some hint of resentment. no one can be as happy for you as you could be.

I made the trip back to my stuff in an interceptor, before the nullification change (like, a year before), and man that was enough of a triumph to last me for the next ten years no matter what else happened. (****, look at that caldari battleship skillbook sitting there, waiting to be injected... I am a ******* god now. that is also my first corpse ever and the corpse of the dude who killed me. my corpmates caught him on his way out; the SSDC guys kick so much ass)

randprin, I'm a little concerned for you, because I don't think this is about 'just' a video game for you. you returned several times like a winner who picks themselves back up, but right now you're quitting, and that makes you the other thing. don't let yourself do that, man. not in EVE, not in life. ever.

at the very least, resub one more time, and make it back to your old hangar.

The strong prey on the weak, the only differences between Eve and the real world in this respect is that the scammers, thieves, liars, murderers and conmen get to wear a suit in the real world; whereas here we all get spaceships.

If you want consequences, then it's up to you to provide them.

rand, get in touch with me. especially if it's soon, we can do 4/10s in a gang. we'll do level 4s even. then i'll show you how to turn the ISK you get from that into even more ISK. spend a weekend on comms and in-game with me and i'll show you how to make enough to plex your account every four or five days.

also: start posting more, especially in OOPE... it's mostly just crap topics everyone has heard about elsewhere, but it gets posted so we can BS about it. you're a 2004 toon which is epic, but your only thread was this one... don't go out like that bro

you got nothing to lose, everything to make better in this game that you were one of the earliest groups to find, and obviously you knew it could be fun or else you wouldn't have come back repeatedly.

PVE? hell yes. i know my stuff when it comes to PVE, dude. looking for level 4 missioning or 4/10s? done. fancy, over-the-top mission fleets for lols? i got that. wormhole sleepers? got that too. I'll tell you all about that and the things i'm into now.

Good for me 'coz of many years playing EVE so I've a grasp on the basics. Griefin noobs from the rookie help channel is no good for the game.

biggest nuisance i ever met in game is a cop irl. and he was calm about it like he was going to keep it up forever. i'm glad i'm not like that and don't have a desire to play that way.

My only input on the matter, since I have a particular play style here ingame, is to keep going at it.

Like Rain said, dont quit in flames and despair and as usual ignore the trolling, even I have been on the trolling side sometimes during my 9 years here (OMFG cant believe I have been here 9 years)

EVE is a very special game, a niche game.

You have all this absurdly overblown political drama of people that like to play the game a certain way, the absurdly overblown tearfeasts of people that like to play the game in a more conservative way and then you have those that fall in the middle, and as many iterations as possible of these 3 spots as there are players.

Trolling, griefing, scamming etc are parts of eve, undeniable parts and FACTS.

This once understood can easily be overlooked (even swept under a rug) if you focus your gameplay into a particular area.

My own personal experience has not been unlike others here.

Nice corps, was even in an alliance, travelled in null , got crushed, friends dispersed, had to rebuild, got scammed, trolled to hell, etc, etc, etc.

And after 9 years, I am still here. Why?

The People man!

No other game EVER has this astounding amount of "people generated content" in a weirdly done sandboxy system of bad dev decisions and strange pullings to the edges of the map, but it exists, and unlike some people that think they are the only creators of said content I see this in all zones every day, created by people that don´t even know what they are doing.

People, just people.

Hate them, love them ... I have played in many many MMO´s all these years, and have seen kins, guilds, clans and even the mmo themselves fall apart or dwindle to almost non-existence.

EVE is here, and I plan to see it for as long as I can.

EVE itself is beyond CCP right now, they are like the Tech-Priests maintaining the Golden Throne, honestly sometimes barely understanding how it works.

EVE is People, and without them EVE is no more.

These are my insane ramblings on EVE, but they are true

Find your niche, your spot here, once you do it, you will always return here, and no amount of scorn, hatred, callousness or deceit will tarnish your joy of the most annoying game ever.

Don´t laugh. EVE isn´t fun per se, it´s a mediocre boring spreadsheets on space backgrounds with drony techno-music (or silence) full of lag where your only representation of physicality is an avatar JAILED in a room as raw data of virtual inane goods is accessible to you at your whim, and in despair you move around in space in a coffin-ship in an universe where the older you get the more trapped you are to the system, and not even DEATH itself will free you from this burden, for you are cursed to live here, all it does is make you feel bad for losing one of your coffins.

it might give you some fun moments, but they are filled with hours of masochistic, soul crushing nothingness, but I believe deep down, most people endure those nihilistic voids of existence just to savour the sweet, rare and precious moments when you actually accomplish "something".

As if this was a big jail filled with sadistic Wardens that receive sexual gratification seeing the prison run itself as the prisoners actually are grateful for being there, for expanding the prison complex and praising their lot within this hellish nightmare of Kafkian existence.

Once you understand your position in this jail, once you know it deep in your bones, EVE will be with you forever.

Join us in torment, for it is indeed delicious.

OP, if you think anything that happens in this game is what real evil is, then I am glad you have had such an easy life...so far...
There is true, shocking, chilling evil aplenty in this world, but nothing in any video game really compares...

Well, EVE is about either fitting into the core game, or finding a comfy niche until CCP evicts you through action or lack of action.

It is sad to see young players quit, but then, I've seen so many people quit EVE... it's like growing old, some day you notice how you know more dead people than people still alive, or maybe you are the last one.

for some time now, I've thought about running an introductory, comprehesive, free, unbiased, unofficial (no corp ties) school in caldari space for day 0 players. Not to prevent this thread's situation specifically, but to simply introduce players to subcapital gameplay, as well as things outside the client like evemon, mumble/jabber/teamspeak, siggy, the forums which would serve as additional "hooks" to retain players, and also prepare players for the group environment.

I would need a few days per player & it will cost a bit of isk for skillbook packs, but not much. ...walk them through everything in the game so they are aware of what is available to explore.

not to create content, but to show them tools to create their own. I don't know enough to teach it all, but I think I know enough to introduce it.

perhaps if they show promise, at the end I can pass them through Team Evil to install jump clones. their employment history would also serve as a seal of approval, and I can award a medal... but I like to dream. (hey, in the US military, you get a bit of ribbon for completing basic training)

as for why I would be motivated to do this, I think it's one of those things (good and bad) that permeate a larger group over time. and as for my reputation, people will think what they want... what I think is: asking resigned players to join you on comms and asking for their stuff are just choices in the sandbox.

anyway.

In randprin's case, like many others, chances are there is more content to be had if randprin was more aware of all the tools available to create it.

Team Evil recently made a motivated move out of a C5 , and things are still settling... but this school idea lingers, so look out for a thread about it.

so maybe it's embarrassing to hear someone admit they're disappointed because nobody cared. but you know what they say about the faults we find in others. anyone who has thanked a corpmate for watching their back or doing them a favor understands what was missing.

if randprin is aware of it, then he has a capacity for it. players like that should be helped in the high likelihood they'll appreciate it and become the kind of player who is good for the longevity of the game (via subscriptions).

the toxic, harsh aspect of the culture should stay. but you can still exercise some duality by helping a noobie on an alt.
