Out of Pod Experience

My childhood dream was to become an astronaut. I love space (hey this is a space game ) and exploring it has always sounded tempting.

I'm probably not the only one here.

Hey, no goofing on my future post-retirement job. If I don't get a job as one of those volunteer old guys at history museums who are eager to inform you about everything and talk your head off.

In the meantime, my dream job would be to research the Sengoku Jidai ('Age of Warring States) of feudal Japan. Then write a good action and intrique-packed history of those samurai warlord badasses. Meanwhile living with some land and nature around me, or else near the water with a boat.

Since I probably don't have the brain for cosmology, astrophysicist working on heliophysics or astroparticle physics.

The Consumer Electronics Show and Pron Star Convention (AVN Adult Entertainment Expo) have always been held during the same week in Vegas. I manned a booth at CES a few years back and the steady pilgrimage to the "other" expo was really funny.

i love writing. if i could choose a job it would definitely be writing related. if not books then some publication or other. hopefully one i support the content of.

Getting more money from business to dream better.

Still not sure. Years ago I wanted to be a writer. Looking at it now I get the impression even exceptionally talented writers struggle to make a living from it, and I'm way behind them in practical terms.

At the moment being a mature student is fulfilling a goal. I'm trying to keep an open mind about opportunities at the end of it. Travelling or working abroad appeals, but my family are getting older and we're close so I'd rather not disappear from their lives for too long.

I suppose having done lots of different jobs it's less about the role itself and more about finding a good employer and people to work with. With all the will in the world, even a dream job can be horrendous if you don't like your colleagues or the company. One thing I won't do is re-enter the corporate world at a level where I have to participate in culling staff as an exercise in 'efficiency'. There's no salary that can compensate for dealing with those stress levels over a number of years, which I should probably have realised after witnessing 3 different people have heart attacks whilst at work. Takes a long time to remove the blinkers when you are very focused though. Something to be said for redundancy - whilst it's an unpleasant experience, for some of us it's the best thing that could have happened.
