Idea - Introduce Player-Based "Factional Proxy" Incursions to encourage PVP?

General consensus is that EVE needs more PVP & more accessible PVP ....
a) Faction Warfare doesn't really work (screws up faction standings too badly, plus many other issues?)
b) PPL want to be able to log in and find PVP more easily (not trolling for hours, etc.)

Idea:
Could the Incursion mechanics system be adapted to allow for "Player based Incursions"?

Example:
An Amarr Incursion into Minmatar space, with the Empire factions hiring Capsuleers as their "proxies" ...
A capsuleer wanting to hire themselves out ot the Amarr side, could simply sign up for an "Incursion mission" through a nearby Amarr agent, warp to a nearby deadspace warpgate, and be transported through one of those Incursion wormhole devices, straight to the Amarr "staging system" in Minmatar space. The pilot could choose among several Incursion fleets/sites of differing size to join (or perhaps is sent to a specific site based on which agent/mission he signed up for). Faction standing hits don't apply perhaps ... since the Incursion is being done through neutral proxies .... etc.

Pilots in Minmatar space would see Incursion effects in their system/constellation ... penalties and such based on how the Incursion is progressing and which side is winning. They could fight against the Incursion by signing up via Minmatar agents on a mission by mission basis, being sent to attack Incursion sites of different size based on their choosing or ship capabilities, etc.

The "Agents" could loosely "match" the two sides based on how many capsuleers from each side are joining at the time, etc.
Enemy capsuleers could "leave" by heading back through their respective "wormhole" or warp gates ...

The idea obviously would need a lot more work and fleshing out ... and yeah, there are bound to be the ppl who argue against ANY kind of PVP "matching" in EVE .... but it seems EVE has to somehow learn to compete against all the other games out there, most of which have easily accessible PVP via matchup systems etc. (Call of Duty, World of Tanks, WOW, etc.) and which allow ppl to simply log in for a few hours and easily get into a fight and back out. Yeah, ideas like RvB, FW, etc. do exist, but seem more of a workaround to compensate for lack of a real system.

I really love the effects Incursions have on local regions in space ... where you'll be flying along and all of a sudden you hit an area being affected by an Incursion, and you might get penalties to mission bonii, armor, etc., and feel like "hey, I should DO something about this to fight back for my side!".

The Incursion mechanic could have the benefit of still incurring "real" losses, but at least providing the "meeting place" for PVP to easily happen, and also create some effects on the systems where it takes place (Incursion penalties or bonii).

Anyway, just throwing the idea out for discussion .... feels like we really need more and better ideas to improve PVP in EVE while not destroying the good stuff we already have (hard sci-fi backdrop, mostly player based economy & warfare, etc.).

TBH, it sounds like how factional warfare *SHOULD* work (albeit, "no" to your idea of not screwing up faction standings -- if you've fought the minmatar for 6 months, they should hate you).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Hmmm, maybe capsuleers could keep their faction standings balanced (those who care) by simply rotating among which faction they do Incursions for ...

provided that there's a minimum standing requirement or something ... could be doable.

I support this idea. As a new player I've never really been involved in PvP as I'm unsure how.

Real player incursions would be a great thing as long as they're scalable and allow players of all experience to get involved. It would be advantageous for newer players to receive basic ships for these events so they don't have to fear the loss of their own ship.

Sounds like battlegrounds to me.
