Exhumer Question

I am looking to get a exhumer for my mining pilot... I have been asking around and I am getting a mixed bag of respomses, so I'll as k here... What one is better. Hulk or Skiff

I have an orca pilot that will be with it so rly don't need to worry about large amounts of space in the ship so I don't need a mack
But what I am concern about however is how easy the damn thing will be to gank. Hulks seem to scream suicide gank me and they look paper thin <.<

Im leaning more towards skiff... The description states the laser works at triple efficiency and it has the extra slot for a laser upgrade 2. So with the tank of a skiff + extra slot. Is it over all a better barge to go with vs a hulk? (when thinking of cost, yield and tank?)

I would go with a skiff if you're planning on doing small group mining or just duoing with the orca. The hulk is a fine ship, but best used in a larger group, ideally with some guards and scouts watching your back.

Skiffs are notoriously tanky, and tend to be left alone more often than not. The hulk may be able to yield more, but that paper thin thing isn't just appearance, they go pop pretty easily.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

You're overlooking something very important here. Yes, the Skiff has a +200% bonus to stripper yield, but it can fit one stripper. The Hulk can fit three strippers. What's one stripper plus 200% of one stripper equal two? Three strippers.

Don't be fooled ito assuming that the Skiff sucks stone faster than a Hulk.

Do you want as much ore as possible during a certain timeframe? = Hulk
But.. keep an eye on local as they are juicy targets.

If you can't afford to lose a Hulk then go with your other option. :)

Assuming the same skills and general fit, a Hulk will always out-mine a Skiff in terms of raw m3 per hour. Sure, the Skiff gets the role bonus that makes it's one laser work like three, but the Hulk gets bonuses to it's three lasers that the Skiff doesn't.

As to your question: it all boils down to comfort. How comfortable are you that you aren't going to get suicide ganked, and how comfortable are you being attentive enough to unload your Hulk after every cycle? If you're uncomfortable with either of those, go with the Skiff. The Skiff is virtually gank-proof, and it has a larger ore hold (although not as large as a Mackinaw) so it can mine unattended a bit longer.

As an aside, I don't use Exhumers even though my mining pilots can fly them. To me, as a casual miner, the vastly increased price outweighs the benefits over their T1 brethren. Remember, losing a Covetor is a relatively small blow, but losing a Hulk is considerably more expensive.

Risk vs. Reward.

You decision all comes down to one question: If I use this ship, can I afford to lose it?

If you answer "no," then use a Skiff. If you answered "yes," then it's all personal preference and you can't really go wrong in any of the three choices.

If you're feeling sociable, flying Hulks is a great way to meet new people.

Skiff. Always.

Hulks are for groups that can afford some risk or some defense/scouts, and have a method of hauling.

Skiff has beefy defense (if you fit it right) and still has a yield that is healthy.

Depending on your skills you can get over 80k EHP with shield resists above 70% across the board, and still get a yield over 3000m3/cycle

Gankable? Of course. But unless they are looking for *you* specifically, or are desperate, people are going to pass you up for easier targets, especially if they are in the belt with you.

Best fit in the world won't help you as much as knowing your local area, keeping d-scan active, and using your brain. :)

Profit favors the prepared

Definitely get a Skiff because when you get bored of mining, you can go ratting in it instead :-)

Due to your fear of gank assume you are mining in high sec and you will not be giving full attention.

In that case you are missing the point the rocks will be shite and with all you mining force on one rock (one stripper), one missed cycle on a bad rock going to cost you more then on one rock in the hulk where you are spread over three.

Honestly, best with a T1 variant, covertor?, imo.
