Mindblowing Mining improvment

When the cargo bay is full
and the mining lasers stop
then the mining lasers should
retain the mined rocks until space
is made availalbe in the ship hold.

As is, the rocks are discarded.

No, it shouldn't. Cargo capacity is one of the three major factors when picking which barge to use. You're trying to eliminate it.

EDIT: Nevermind I've misunderstood you. So only the remainders from the previously finished cycle would be held? If so I can dig that. +1

No, I think this would be too easy to misuse to grief other players.

The rocks are discarded? That's new to me. I would have failed so many mining missions if that were the case. Recent change?

nope, it's always been "if you run outta cargo space, the remainder is destroyed".

Not supported.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Yes,
something like
that the mining moduel itself would "clog"
with the mined rocks should the cargo / ore hold be full.
Instead of just dumping the mined rocks.

Then that "cloged" mining turret could be unclogged
by dumping its rocks into cargo / ore hold.

I thought it would be nice for rookie miners to get that litle extra.

Maybe the clogged mining turret would glow yellow
indicating that it is clogged.

Then the pilot could either empty its cargo, and then the mining turret would
eject its rocks into the cargo / ore bay.
Or, the miner could tell the turret to mine another target regardless of it glowing yellow, thus dumping its load into space.

Anything remotelly along thos lines, really.

Maybe i don't catch the exploitable part, so i am guessing.

Laws of gravity would force the ejected rocks to be attracted to the nearest largest mass... but that sounds like programing acrobatics.

If you're paying attention you don't need this.

-1 for trying to get more isk while you afk mine.

quite like the idea

+1

cargo hold full > mining turret tries to force material to the cargo hold.. it's full, it jams up with the remainder of the material that tries to force through.

I would prefer if mining lasers shut down rather than continue to cycle and yield nothing, however. Whilst at it, might be fun to apply 50% damage as well. Jamming up has to damage something.. ergo; bots would quickly find themselves with wrecked turrets. It's difficult to not support that.

Is the OP trying to write in haiku form?

Anywho...

Not supported. If you want to be super anal about your yield, then mine actively. If you're doing it to idly pass the time and make a little ISK while you work then thems the breaks.

Kind of interesting with the damage option.

+1 from me.

Lore wise it makes sense or lets say reality wise there is no logical reason for the excess mined ore to be put back into the asteroid just because the ore hold is full. It gets transfered to the cargo hold and if full either stuck in the miner or gets jet-canned into space. I don't think the exploits will be that hard, I can imagine ice miners rabbing an extra cube (no time will be saved or yield increased), but everything else will be negated due to ...

- time being wasted by having to undock to exit the cycle properly and have it dumped into the ore hold
- being uanble to switch crystals while being 'clogged'
- being unable to unfit the mudule while being 'clogged'
- maybe being unable to leave the ship
- maybe the module taking damage

In the spirit of 'Eve is real' why not make this little change.

Well, do you know, what pain in the ass active mining is with all the messed up ore values and m3 transitions and without any 3rd part assistance? And I am doing it, every time, and that suggestion is just a little compensation for one of the most punishing 'features'. I still don't understand why the scanner doesn't show m3 instead of ore density or at least shows it additionally. Or the crystals, if not the modules, showing the ore in its denstity also.

Not a bad idea to retain the ore mined,

BUT that means one more cycle before you leave so you can take 1300m3 worth of ore AND what your lasers are holding

I think it makes sense so long as the module is damaged as a result of mining into a full container, I have always taken it that the mined ore is vented to prevent damage. its a pitty there isnt a visual representation for this :D

Actual players are more likely to wreck their turrets, bots presumably can be ever vigilant of their cargohold status.

I don't think there is an issue at all, except for ice you won't be able to get a full load, either you cant activate it, because you missed the 'full' marker and its clogeed which prevents reactivation or you won't get a full load anyway. To actively try to get as much in is still an effort that furthers active play and gets punished by the dock - empty - undock - un-clogg - undock timer - dock - empty - dock timer - undock - and then warp back to the belt.
And anyone mining with more then 1 char (like most I guess) are gonna be hating it and stop exploiting it on purpose. I think it si selfregulating.
