Display too dark with Shader Quality High, Medium

Basically the title says it all: with Shader Quality set to High or Medium, the game can be too dark in some areas. All the other graphic settings are on high. I tried HDR on and off, too. It had no noticeable effect. Here are three screenshots.

AttentionNo other game is affected (120+ games in my Steam account) so I don't think it has anything to do with my hardware or software. Anyway, my specs:
Eve Online Launcher: 2.1.655130
Windows 8.1 64bit
16GB of DDR3 RAM
Geforce GTX780
Geforce Driver 337.88 dated by 26.05.2014.
I don't think it has anything to do with my settings because I noticed the problem first when I joined Eve Online and had ATI 6850 at that time.

AttentionWhy am I posting? Can the developers please give us a gamma slider or at least tweak high and medium shaders if it is possible? Thanks for the game! o7
Or maybe I am wrong and Jita has to look dark as the ultimate abode of scammers Big smile

The sun is behind the station, what do you expect? Though I'll take a gamma slider too, I suppose. The game looks good though.

\Well, good news for you -- they're adding a gamma slider this patch (or was it Crius in July ... but in either event, soon).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

With my hardware I expect only the best picture. Something along the lines of this:
Covetor
Good-looking too
Another clean picture
I perfectly understand that some or all of these images are prerendered, cleaned-up game art but still the game has to look good with higher settings. Pitch dark stations are not an option regardless of where the local sun shines from.

I know it is a cold universe out there but if semblance of reality has to be sacrificed in favor of artistic appeal and the overall look of the game, so be it. I am not asking for a redesign of the game engine in favor of better UI, better cosmos looks. All I want is a way to make some areas brighter. Are there some INI files I can edit manually? All I want for now is to learn how other people are doing in such areas? Do they have the same problem? Are they okay with it? Is it my hardware that is to blame?

I wonder why this guy's station's interior looks so bright while mine is all dark. Particularly the ship model. Has the game changed so much since then?

Now I know that the change in favor of the darker environment happened last year or so. I am not the only one with this problem. Petition to Make EVE Brighter Again or at least add a brightness slider

I guess the change for the darker side happened after some folks complained about having to wear sunglasses for some missions because EVE was too bright.

One year ago plus or minus couple of days EVE client had a similar problem with nVidia graphic cards and high shaders.

And since it is a long-standing problem I guess you cannot just code a gamma slider in Mordor, I mean EVE Bear

As Hakaari said, Jita looks crap because the sun is behind the station. I have the same issue. I'm on that undock alot and I am forced to disable half of the graphics settings so I can see what I am looking at. The reason that video looks brighter is because the person has more than likely raised his gamma settings for the game manually in the nVidia control panel

Here are some pictures without any sun positioning. The shaft below the ship is clearly visible with low shaders and is hard to guess it is a shaft on high shaders regardless of what desktop gamma settings I tune nvidia drivers for. It is impossible to set gamma settings for a specific 3D application in Nvidia drivers. It wasn't possible with ATI drivers either.

I swear it is the first game that gives me these problems.

Here is a sample of what I expect the game to look like.

Can I assume the picture was shot with all settings on high? It looks quite good. How can I learn the hardware specifications of the machine that was used to make that video? I am just trying to understand whether it is a good idea for me to try to install Windows 7 or reinstall Windows 8.1 from scratch in a bid to achieve a fix to the problem I started in the first post.

If any player has a good picture with all settings on high, can they please specify their hardware and possibly software in this thread? A couple of examples would suffice.

EW! Jesus. You like that? If you like it turn your shader quality back down because that's what they did for those videos. No, the settings are NOT on high I promise you. They're on low. I don't think you actually know what you want.

Oh really? I think I may have mentioned previously that with my hardware I want the game to look its best with all the graphic settings on high instead of looking worse, instead of making me crank gamma settings on my monitor all the way up and still not getting a clear picture.
Nobody should take my posts here as something personal. If the community cannot help me, at least by opening tickets and this thread I can at least make CCP aware of the problem.
