A General Discussion Salute!

Its been 2 or 3 days since patch day and I've not yet been troubled by a SINGLE thread in General Discussion of any substance or interest. None whatsoever. Controversy? Criticism? In GD? It simply doesn't exist! (in much the same way homosexuals 'don't exist' in Iran.)

Ok, lets be honest - GD never really HAD much substance, but it WAS entertaining.

Newbies - believe it or not, GD used to be a wild, rollicking place. Back when CCP Zymurgist was in charge.
I know, I checked the EVE Search archives. But his laissez-faire Community management style didn't fit into our Brave New World. He was fired, disposed of. Replaced.

But today - after years of effort - it seems that 'EVE Community Management' finally managed to create the content-free format that was so fervently desired.

Today, it is spectacularly dull, dull, dull, at a time when it should be crackling with comments. Useful information is safely sequestered in 100 page threadnaughts that nobody will read.

CCP Falcon, your tireless efforts have finally paid off with an amazing accomplishment. You've tamed GD.
Albert Speer couldn't have done a better job. When corporate axe finally falls, we will look back on your reign with a wistful fondness and a tear in our eye - as the 'golden age' of the EVE-O forums.

I now present you the highest forum honor possible, the double GJ.

Yay I get to grab another bucket.
I'll be returning shortly, I hope this thread has enough content by then.

It will be locked before you do. The ISDs don't take criticism very well.

OP = More Pssssshhhhhhhhhh.

Wasn't believable enough.

On a side note...

Recent scandalous events within CCP kind of overshadowed the typical post-release teeth-gnashing.

That being said...

I still saw threads on:

1. Y U Break My Rattlesnake!!!!!!11!!!!1111

2. Y U Break My Sentriez!!!!!!!!!111!!!!1111

3. Y U NO PROVIDE MORE CONTENT!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!!!!

So yea, I would say it is business as usual in GD.

So if I read you correctly, instead of being able to bring the content you so admire yourself, you just bring a whine and moan about the community and forum instead.

GJ! GJ!

That showed all us newbies how to do it.

Strangely enough, the forums don't exist to entertain you

Psst, here is where the cavorting goes on now. Even the mods sneak in from time to time. Don't tell anyone >.> It's not particularly argumentative in there, but it is amusing.

Read the forums in Eve-Search btw, all the misbehaving is preserved beautifully.

No. The point is that if I went to the trouble of creating content -it only would be allowed to remain if it presented the game and/or CCP in a positive light.

Glancing through the last few pages of the forum it seems that negative opinion threads continue to be locked - about as quickly as this one, invariably, will be.

Generally, if you spend 20 minutes time and effort creating forum content, but it takes an ISD takes 60 seconds to read, post and lock it up? Well, you lose. He just ganked your time AND content.

And, interestingly - it eventually leads to a lack of interesting, readable content. Why?

Hypothetically speaking:

Bad/sloppy posts and/or largely copy-pasted posts are now much more 'time effective'.
If it only 30 seconds to 'bad/copy' post an opinion, vs 60 seconds to moderate it, well, then, you kind of win.
In a David Mitchell 'Peep Show' kind of way.

Sure, your thread got locked, but at least you just ganked the ISD's time, rather than vice-versa.

You could almost create a new sport. The forum equivalent of smashing into Mackinaws with a MWD Stabber.
"Forum-bumping" instead of "minerbumping."

Its the reason why content on this forum has gone downhill.
Good, critical posting is banished, leaving just positive fluff, stickied threadnaughts, and strings of locked 'bad' posts.

BORING.

Hey, I want my forums like I want my AM radio.

I don't want to hear the sycophants on state-run media like NPR or BBC kissing Obama's ass, telling us everything is perfectly fine, big government is looking out for you - while hoping to land a cushy media position within the administration.

I want conflict, argument, and hurt feelings. I want to hear about corruption in the ranks, subversion and prophecies of doom.
I want to hear about the controversial stuff - how Obama illegally traded 5 terrorist leader for a known US defector, under false pretenses - in order to cover up the exploding VA scandal.

Kind of sad that the EVE-O forum has been mutated into an advertisement for CCP, rather than an honest utility provided for feedback and discussion.

Herr, I cant speak for all but I come here (GD) to escape RL, not discuss it.

There is however, OOP section. You may have better luck there.

If you want to create whatever content you like, irrespective of how ridiculous it is, go create a blog.

It worked for Ripard.

However, why should the rest of us have to wade through irrelevant rants about the state of healthcare in a foreign country, decisions of foreign leaders or the rights of individuals to sexual freedom?

None of that relates in any way, shape or form to EvE and I agree 100% with that type of thing being kept off here. If it was allowed for one, it would be allowed for all and the forum would be a completely dysfunctional mess.

The reference to the notable statements made by the previous president of Iran must have sailed over your head.
Problems don't exist in EVE - in much the same way that homosexuals "don't" exist in Iran. Obviously, they do, but open discussion on the subject leads to punishment.

RL references were used in comparison to the EVE-O forums, not actual discussion of RL.
So, my friend, you are still safe in your warm little cocoon.
