Honestly, the fact there was a WoD MMO in the works was half the reason I still pay for EvE. Granted they might just restart the project at a later time, but that would easily be a decade or longer from now...

So I hope they sell the IP to Trion. Because I want WoD and if CCP isn't going to do it, I'll happily give stupid amounts of money to whoever will.

They were using the WoD programmers to develop Eve, using the WoD code to develop Eve, pretty much nullifying your whole spiel.

Was that before Incarna? I do not have insider knowledge, so this is indeed speculation from my part.
Thanks for the insight!

CCP bought white wolf in 2006.

The White Wolf programmers were the ones that created the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th captains quarters, after incarna, and were working on coding Eve well before that.

Dear OP,
In the same way that a healthy person with a peaceful mind is invisible to psychology and seen as insipid to the carnival of vanity that passes for human life, so your concerns about the corrosive effect of concentrated horror as entertainment will be a non-starter.
Take heart though, most people interested in this sort of thing are intelligent, bland suburbanites. The small amount of sick people attracted will always find something to focus their pathology on and are never indicative of the wider audience*.
EvE already ticks all the boxes WoD had anyway, immortal elite powerful demigods vying for dominance under endless night, yep sounds like Placid FW lowsec to me.

Perhaps, but EVE is not as visually grotesque and leaves much for the imagination.

WoD didnt.

We cant even harvest corpses in EVE for implants. In WoD, corpses are a food source. Yuck.

Same with WoW. I don't see anyone eating corpses over that game.

A few ***** maybe, but no corpses.

are serious business sir.

As someone who grew up playing V:TM I was really looking forward to a V:TM MMORPG. I wish CCP would sell White Wolf to someone who can properly realize games like World of Darkness instead of letting White Wolf continue on as CCP's publishing house for EVE books.

And to the OP who believes a vampire/horror/modern gothic themed MMO is "depressingly and pornographically grotesque" I completely agree, its partly the reason I was looking forward to the game in the first place. As an adult who has grown up with video games I would love to play some games that are actually for adults, games with copious amounts of strong sexual content and graphic violence, I for one am sick of games being watered down and censored because Hades forbid younger gamers ever play something with virtual content on par with something they watched on HBO.

The Black Fury sisterhood were looking forward to the 2016 Apocalypse expansion too....

Realtruth: WoD project sacked because of Dave Brockie's death. Without Oderus, vampires have no prime-evil to aspire towards, and as such no real point to their continued existence. Upon realization that their meager attempts at shocking behavior were only pale imitations of a legend's daily life, well there really was no other choice. Thousands of years worth of carefully cultivated evil were simply no match for what simply happened before breakfast in the slave pits.

THis is exactly what people were saying in 1994 when Magic the Gathering butchered the RPG industry overnight.

It came back, though its still not at the level it was in 1992

I remember playing FRP over the table in the late seventies (D&D, RuneQest and Traveller) they them seemed to lose the appeal when PBM (play by mail) games came along.

The best games were then Diplomacy (superb for monthly deadlines due to the off-board shenanigans) and later SuperNova II (one needed a month to control one's empire properly).

The RPG games were still coming up, we were up to RuneQuest version fifteen (or so it seemed), D&D had spawned, respawned and morphed, Traveller vanished up its own fundament after a few disasterous updates and then along came Magic as you said.

That was, and we didn't realise it, the beginning of the end.

PBM games then fell by the wayside and became MMOs; what's Eve if not a real time version of SuperNova. WoW, EQ were just updates of Tribes of Crane and so on.

But Magic did kill off RPG mostly because they did just that. They took over a company or two and chopped it to bits. Now any RPGs any kids know about are going to be Warhammer and nothing but Warhammer. But I still miss the days of Gloranthia

I am not sure what this post is about but allow this old greybeard his moments of memory if you would.

RPG's not dead. WoTC did ruin things for a while, then they were bought by Hasbro, who botched things even further. However, in their attempts to completely alienate the clientele that supported their product for the 30 years prior they gave birth to other systems who are now flourishing. Paizo(sp), with it's staff of TSR and Dragon Magazine ex-pats has put out a correctified version of 3.5, ie, Pathfinder. This game system has done wonders along the lines of carrying the torch of the oldschool D&D mentality without going full WoWtard in the process.
Don't get me wrong, Warhammer is a fine game, but to be played right in either of it's versions (fantasy or 40k) it is the gaming equivalent to the 'rich man's sport'. I know there's the RPG version, but RPG's beget miniatures, and miniatures beget systems based upon them... oh, and I lost my point due to excessive blood in my alcohol stream. Must fix, back later.
TL:DR.... we old bastiches are still rolling dice and mocking our fallen foes with ribald cheers and foul mouthed jests... carry on.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

I forgot to mention that I used to run postal games of Dragon Pass. Greg Stafford used to read the 'zine with the game in and declared that I was thoroughly bonkers...
