Changing ships without docking?

How do you change ships without docking?

I'm watching this guy, Majordomo Dimaloun, in Jita and he's playing the usual stations games. What I can't figure out is, how he changes his bait ships (punisher/cruor) into a proteus without docking. His red suspect dock never changes location or even blinks, just the name of the ship changes and target lock drops.

It's an interesting tactic and I'd love to learn how it's done.

Orcas and carriers have fleet hangars where you can store spare ships and switch to them in space.

He'll have a friend or an alt on station with him in one of those

thanks for the quick reply.

It's amazing how many people are falling for it and I'm sure I've been a victim in the past.

my understanding was that CCP had changed this mechanic that allowed people to swap ships using an orca during combat a long time ago, Maybe not but I'm pretty certain thats why I stopped using my orca to do it...

Weapontimer (60s) will prevent you from changing a ship/docking/ejecting from your ship/ jumping through a gate.

So you have to deagress and tank for 60s before you can change your ship.

That's all they changed about it ;)

The other day I found an empty ship in NullSec, it was just there in space doing nothing and yet I was the only pilot in system.

So why would anyone leave a perfectly good ship behind?

Likely not on purpose. It's possible they were trying to swap ships with a Carrier/Orca and got interrupted (disconnected, attacked, etc.) It's also possible that they wanted to store a more valuable ship and just didn't have room for the one they left behind.

So, if I had blatted it. Would I have got a KillMail?

If so, then dammit, as I missed a good opportunity to win a battle.

You get into a capsule, enter it and have a free ship...

free ships is always nice, My best find yet was a Half T2 Half faction fitted Legion in a C1 WH that had just been left on a moon, that was a good day

Yes, you get a killmail against the last person who was sitting in the ship.

Yeah Usually in Jita you see a unique form of PVP meta-gaming going on.

Combat ships with tractor beams to pull ammo from neutral haulers on grid
Neutral Bump Ships that get you off the undock when you agress
Neutral Logistics that burst rep people if they are going down long enough for them to dock or complete the kill
Orcas holding ships to swap to in the middle of baiting, or to replace burned out mods
Neutral warfare links in system that make less threatening ships something more to worry about.

As much as i Hate high sec warfare such as this it really is quite interesting to watch and learn from it sometimes.
