Surprised there isn't already a thread for this.

70 years ago today, thousands of men landed on the beaches in Normandy and stormed into machine gun and artillery fire.

Thousands on both sides died or were wounded in the process.

I'm not very good with words, so i'll give you Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the speech he made to Allied forces just before D-Day

Here

o7 to the ones who never made it home.

'And When he gets to heaven,
To Saint Peter he will tell;
One more soldier reporting, sir.
I've served my time in Hell'

In a few moments you will have an experience that will seem completely real. It will be the result of your subconscious fears transformed to your conscious awareness.

I was going to put one up in the morning, but you already did the deed.

o7 to all the brothers who died that day, and to the ones who lived to tell the story.
Proud to have been able to follow in their footsteps.

Came here to make a thread. Found this one.

The longest day. They paid the price for our freedom. Lest we forget. RIP.

Sabaton - Primo Victoria.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Hell of a thing when you figure this was all pretty much a coin toss. Roosevelt and Churchill both had speeches drawn up for if the operation failed and been a total disaster.

Could have been a very different war then.

i've often wondered how things may have been different, had the war gone the other way.

'We shall fight them on the beaches' may have actually become a thing.

May all those that died, on both sides, fly high for eternity. They all died for what they believed in or were forced into and that deserves respect.

/(*.*) from one who wanted and voluntered to serve but was disqualified.

The Soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"

The Soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the Judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've served your time in Hell

Thank you for your sacrifice my brothers in arms.

To be fair. What Webvan posted was not anything akin to the hate that started WWII. That being siad I understand the censorship you imposed Blink

I didn't know us Yanks started it Big smile But we certainly finished it Blink (edit: and the Canadians did freaking awesome too, all our allies)
On the industrial side of it, I find it utterly amazing that my parents generation was able to field and equip the armies in such a quick amount of time. Determination won the day, not hate, and we are better off for that. I can't say I understand the censorship of that name, I've found this in a number of European discussion forums, but I'm not going to protest it nor discuss the actual moderation since that would be in violation of rules. But just recognizing it was edited.

Big salute for all the brave men that stormed the beaches of France. o7

And one for my great grandfather who was a marine in the pacific theater landing on many of the small rocks out in the pacific which i'm sure was equally as terrifying. o7

To the OP- Thank you.

I am currently about as drunk as i can be and stoill type this.

As most of you know from my posts, i am a firefighter in New York and my post about eth poor girl in the porno shoot gone wrong is pretty much the highlight of my eve posts.

I wanted to thank the OP for what you wrote.

After watching the 93 year old man skydive into Normany, it brough up a lot of memories.

My grandfather was on Normandy Beach that day and survived and my father was in the Vietnam War and survuved.

I was in the First Gulf War as a sniper in 1991 and will never forget what i did. I have to live with it for the rest of my life.

Tonight, in rememberance, i have cried like a little girl in my wife's arms and i am not ashamed.

sorry for they typos but qutie frankly i dgaf atm.
