Hello and thank you for visiting this topic!

Let me begin with some words of introduction : I am a Media & Communication Master's student at Sorbonne University, Paris.

The purpose of this post is to consolidate the Master's dissertation I am writing on Eve and its metagame.

To that end, I am distributing an online form.

It can be completed in under 2 minutes (cross my heart, I had it tested ;)).

If you could spare the time to give me your take on the meta-gaming in Eve, it would be an immeasurable help for me.

Of course, your answers will be strictly confidential.

in advance, thank you so much !

Note: I'm of course willing to receive any kind of feedback on this form and the way it defines the (meta-)game. If you have any suggestion or comment, please feel free to post them on this topic! I'll be checking it regularly (I promise not to bump :))

Again, thank you and fly safe !

I find it difficult that you're basing a master's thesis on on a single data point. Srsly? A 5 question survey for a masters?

What's a "wether" OP? Some newfangled device to take down our lord and saviour goonswarm legion?

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Yep, didn't think about making that precision :p

I'm basing my paper on various corpus (corpi ?) analysis and interviews.

This form is meant to have at least one "general" source of data to consolidate (or counter) some points I made, but it's not my core material :)

Again, this doesn't mean it's a mere secondary source for me, I just can't use it as my primary material (for the very reasons that were pointed out above :p)

Would it be possible to ask what the basis for this is?

I can understand the need for a questionnaire but I'm not sure where it's going? What's your direction?

i.e what are you intending to find out/prove?

If you've never tried PvP in EvE it's quite possible you've missed out on one of the greatest rushes available in modern gaming.

A thesis on the cultural bubble that exists in General Discussion might be more interesting.

Well it's kind of a circumvoluted thinking, but basically I'm trying to (at least grossly) define how the Eve community works - as an Online Community, as a society, as an ongoing meta-game, etc.
The point is to confront these actual workings to the way CCP maintains an infrastructure that (it's my personal assesment) aims to integrate and provide structure for these social mechanisms (a corporate added value of which you are, I'm sure, all aware of the originality in cultural industries).

Then I am using the validation/invalidation of the various points above to humbly criticize some Transmedia theories, mostly on the matters of collective intelligence and participative culture.

BUT to do all without getting stuck into my own head, I need general, exterior inputs on words that I don't want to use naively, like meta-gaming.

I hope this answers your question :)

I agree, it would also be a rich subject :) however I'm kind of short on time to grab on the phenomenons I would like to explore.

Also, just to clarifiy : I'm sorry for my uncertain English, but I thought that "Master's dissertation" meant an intermediate work, you know, a few dozen pages (with a few months to do the research) and not what I would call a thesis which would be a few hundreds in 3 years.

(And if I was actually writing a thesis, trust me, you would die of old age before finishing my survey :p)

Am I losing something in translation ?

Hello, I filled in your form.

Perhaps the primary source for the term "meta gaming" might be useful to you.

If you havn't already read it, heres richard garfields orginal article:

Do you have a canoe that I could borrow please?

Thanks in advance, it would really help :)
