DST Fitting

With Kronos, DSTs have recieved a big update.
They are now more tanky and can haul a significant ammount of cargo without compromising their tank and being immune to bump (MJD).

They are still easy to catch tho, so I suppose they are best suited as Hi-sec haulers.

They recieve a bonus to Active Tank and Active Tank overheat but I doubt a shield booster will save you from a bunch of angry Catalyst.
Oh and you can get ludicrious resist if you fit them with deadspace hardeners.

I came up with this for a Mastodon :
[Mastodon, hisec]
Damage Control II
Inertia Stabilizers II
Inertia Stabilizers II
Prototype Hyperspatial Accelerator

Explosive Deflection Field II
Kinetic Deflection Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Large Shield Extender II
Medium Micro Jump Drive

Improved Cloaking Device II
[empty high slot]

Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II

Overheated, this fit has 144k EHP and align in 11.9sec.

How would you guys fit these ships, do you think the bonus to active tanking is worth it ?

Hauling has always been a risky business to some extent but it has seemed like being cloaky was a more effective defense in most situations than what CCP has proposed for the DSTs. So I just cant see these overtaking BR's in popularity for lowsec, nullsec, or WH hauling. "If you are lucky you might escape by the skin of your teeth by overheating" isn't a compelling case for the DSTs.

Eager to see what the general opinions are though.

I could possibly see these getting used as cyno ships. Load up the fleet hangar with return-trip fuel for your caps, tank the crap out of it, and you could have some rather interesting times. Bait, waypoints, etc.

Or, load up the hold with appropriate fuel and mount some amazing ancillary booster tanks.

But hauling? Meh. I'll stick to my Orca and Blockade Runners.

I went with passive hardeners rather than actives. Thermal/Kinetic/Explosive. This way the tank is on all the time, and I don’t have to remember to activate anything while I am trying to evade, and provides some defense against cap draining to break your tank.

I stayed with the 10mn Microwarp drive. The Microjump drive has a spin up time which leaves you vulnerable, and jumping 100k off doesn’t help much if you are being sniped by Rokh’s or other long ranging ship. The old MWD + cloak is the tried and true evasion technique.

I'm planning to use my Occator much more for lowsec hauling of ships. BR is still much much better for smaller cargo.

I will fit MWD+cloak, warp core stabs in the lows + maybe an inertia stab or two (need to test mwd+cloak), minimal shield tank in the mids (just 2 slots left) and 2 warp speed rigs (else travel times are painful).

May also include a medium neut in the spare high if it fits (though scan res penalty from warp stabs would make it fairly useless as anti-tackle, i suspect).

With a +1 scout checking for organized gatecamps, the mwd+cloak and the 6+ total warp strength should make it very viable for moving large stuff around lowsec relatively safe and fast (because of the warp speed rigs).

This has supposedly been patched out.

Passive hardeners are more convenient but you can't overheat them and thus loose the interesting bonus that DST have.
The only use I see for the MJD is that it allow you to MJD away if some smartass decides to perma bump you in hisec.

I think that DST can be a good alternative to Orca, they can haul about 65k m3, align much quicker and seems tanky enough to haul up to a billion isk.

Looks to me that with the change to DST and freighters, in addition to the revamped T1 haulers and the Orca, we now have a lot of viable options for all kind of hauling favoring tank, speed or Cargo.
BR and jump capable ships are obviously still the best choice for null, DST might be safe in low provided you scout.

You really want to active tank those. An occator can tank a cruisergang with a 2rep setup and heat quite easily. If you are so lucky to possess a bustard, you can run double-large-ASBs and use those overheated. It's hilarious.

In hisec, just fit mwd-cloak and a bit of buffer.

If you have MWD and a cloak you and use it then you won't need any tank at all in high sec hauling because you won't get targeted. So a tank fit only really has a use for AFK hauling in which case you want passive modules.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.
