CCP Eterne presents in the long running Community Spotlight series this time the wonderful website EVE Planets which considerably helps simplifying Plantary Interaction. EVE Planets was created and is maintained by Anariser who, surprisingly enough, started his career in EVE as pirate in Aridia.

Read more about EVE Planets, Anariser and how you might be able to profit from this excellent tool in CCP Eterne's latest Community Spotlight: EVE Planets!

Yup, definitely a nice site. Will keep for reference, and gratz on being featured in Community Spotlight.

However, I think the Spotlight article oversells the site a bit:
Quote:
(...) and try to make everything as efficient as possible to minimize customs taxes. (...)

Luckily, there is a site that takes care of all this for you.

No, sorry, but this site doesn't tell anything on taxes, which is a hugely important factor in the equation. And I am not sure it could.

I don't know if POCO ownership and tax rates are available through any kind of API or data dump, and in any case those are very volatile data. To include them would require at least a daily update, as POCO's are destroyed and new set up fairly often in many systems.

However, IF it was possible to get those data it would REALLY be something. It is rather annoying to find out that since you last visited the planet, the POCO tax has gone from 8 % to 80 % on your products now ready for shipping. Especially if you do not realize it until after you press "Transfer". You can't find that information from outside the system (at least I haven't found any way to do it), so if your corp is not the owner of the POCO, and therefore warned that your facility is being attacked, there is no way you can be aware of such (potentially rather costly) changes from your normal base of operations. Only way really is to visit all your PI systems on a daily basis and watch for POCOs in reinforced mode. Tedious.

Perhaps publishing such information (POCO ownership) would provide too much intel in case of war. In that case, such info should not appear in data dumps, although the tax rate perhaps still might. Still, it is silly both gamewise and lorewise that you cannot see any info on POCOs where you personally have stores, from outside the system. But that is for a different thread, perhaps.

Would be nice to do a filter option on page to do a search of planets based on system to support a entire production line. Google Docs for the win with the help of dotlan. With doing a filter option you can setup to make for an example the entire POS fuel line. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuQdQbHj8e64dGpKREhkYmdPZlFLMTgzS2ZLQjJxWGc&usp=sharing (Just something I was working on)

edit: BOLD TEXT ARE CONSIDERED MAJOR AND MINOR TRADE HUBS

"Oh look, the cat is sitting in the litter box and pooping over the side again" every time we go through these "rough patches". In good humor, and slight annoyance, Boiglio   https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238130&p=82
