Why is the Iteron Mark V still called the Mark Five when there are no Iterons Mark 1-4?

Why does the Mackinaw Ore Hold Cap out at 35,000m3 when it has 2 lasers? If Ice is 1,000 m3 per laser wouldn't it make way more sense to give it 34 or 36,000m3 and have an even cycle?

The other Gallente indy ships used to be Mk 1-4, that last changes to the indys also renamed them.

There used to be Iterons 1-4. They got rebranded and repurposed to become the Nereus, Epithal, Kryos and Miasmos. The Mark V kept its name to keep the Iteron name alive.

I doubt that this was ever a serious point of consideration when it came to balancing the ship.

Many things are named sequentially without having their predecessors active in service. On a technical basis it 'is' the fifth iteration of the Iteron. But in common parlance you'll talk about it as the 'Itty or Iteron.

The Iteron Mark V spent ten years as the king of T1 haulers. It kept its name in memory and as an icon.

We aren’t changing the name on the Mark V. This was the best version of the former line of Iterons, it was the most used of the five, and it is changing very little in this balance pass. For these reasons we feel that both the story and the design are supported by leaving the name intact.

The Mackinaw no longer is a dedicated ice mining boat. To focus on ice mining as the only goal for its ore hold would only hold the ship back. We want them to fly free.

But would it terribly break mining to give a Mackinaw 1k more m3?

Sometimes a block of ice or asteroid is almost gone, so you don't get a full cycle of product anyway.

Ice isn't the only thing a Mackinaw can mine.

35 has long been fine, its a solid number for all uses and needs not to changed for a mere block of ice. Buck up finish early or turn one laser off and go long
