You get a nice pop-up confirmation window when you try to jump into lowsec. Don't ignore it!

Also if you disable it, your can re-enable it from the ESC Reset menu.

The one time I forgot to re-enable it after disabling it, I jumped a Charon freighter into a 0.4 because I warped to the wrong gate. Luckily the one cruiser that tired to bump me didn't know how and gave up.

On your autopilot route, anything orange is lowsec, and red is nulsec. The lowest you want to go is 0.5 which is yellow. Note that yellow + red = orange, so there is a colour-shift towards red the lower you go.

To the op,

Dont let this turn you off of going into lowsec. Lowsec is actually not that difficult to navigate, it just requires preparation and awareness. The ingame map contains alot of information as to recent kills etc. . . You can use it to guide your route. Also you can scout your route and learn the warp/cloak trick, all of which will make travel through lowsec not foolproof but reasonable.

Also keep in mind while your loss may sting now as a newbee, the amt that you lost is easily recoverable - one mission, one exploration site, etc. . . can cover that loss. In short its better that you learned this stuff now when what you are carrying/flying is small potatoes then later with something blingy'er.

Couldn't have put it better myself. The first time I got podded was when I tried to cross a .4 system in a poorly tanked cargo hauler. I wasn't carrying anythng particularly valuable but I was still p****d. As others have mentioned there will be occasions where you can't avoid Lo-Sec, and in thise cases the absolute worst thing you can do is use the Autopilot.

Depending on the volume of whet you're hauling there's also the option of fitting extended cargo holds to smalle ships. There's a trade-off on performance but it means you can be better armed.

I remember when I was a young pilot, there was a skill book that was 10k less in rancer. I jumped into system in my trusty shuttle and warped to station, no problem. But on the way back even through I warped zero I suddenly found myself in a pod. Then im spaming jump as I am sitting right next to the gate and nothing is happening except this message that goes to fast for me to read. Ofc I soon wake up in a new clone. Curse you session change. At least I injected the book before I died.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

OP, I suggest you also convo in-game those two characters that killed you.

Ask them what happened, and what you could've done to avoid it.

There's a very high chance they'll give you good advice. (I would, if I were them)

Also, considering your 5M loss was big for you but relatively small by average game standards, there's a decent chance they might even give you all or part of your ISK back. (I might, if I were them, depending on the mood)

In my experience lowsec pirates are - on average - among the nicest people in EVE. (I am Big smile)

^ Do this. It is usually a very good idea. I was so impressed by the lowsec pirates that killed me then gave me tons of advice that I became one. Well, nullsec pirate actually, but still...

Another thing to avoid being ganked yourself is to make a courier contract to move the stuff for you. Whilst it is still possible to lose your stuff you can at least use the collateral to minimise financial impacts. Corps like Black Frog and Red Frog can hit you up.

If it makes you feel any better most of us have been ganked as a newer player at some point, best thing to do is keep plugging away.

P.s you may be able to sell the kill right to make back a little isk, never done it myself though so couldn't tell you how.

Uhm, yes, well, about that, is three hours old still considered a new player?Oops

Listen to the good advice given above OP, talk to the ones that blew you up and learn from them as well.

That said, I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them.

The Rules:
2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.
