I retired from EVE in late '09 having spent the bulk of my years grinding away at asteroids. The hype over crucible has brought me back and I don't intend to make the same mistake twice. I want to get a fresh start and break into some heated nullsec pvp asap with my new character. I've sold my old miner/indy character to bankroll the operation, so I won't have to worry about isk for quite a long time.

Given that I don't have to worry about sustaining myself for a while, where should I be looking to jump-start my experience with pvp and are there any serious hurdles (besides goon recruitment scams) that I should be aware of? Ideally, i'm looking for the kind of operation where rifters are welcome, pvp training, and some kind of track into an established pvp alliance are all present.

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

I'd say have a peek in the recruitment forum, there are plenty of corps in there who are happy to take in less experienced players. Also, if you have see a corp/alliance you are interested in, check them out a bit, many will have sister alliances/corps for newer players.

If you're really set on a certain corp, chuck their recruiters a bell. You may not be able to join, but they should be able to give you a couple other places to check out.
