Tool Tips, Annoyance or Good thing?

Tool Tips,

Where do we start. The objective of the tool tips to help new players along. However, these "Tool Tips" have a bunch of annoying after effects for Veteran players. Upon selecting a cluster of objects in space I have two choices. I can set the tool tip delay for max or set it for none. If I set it to none, I get more tool tips that a veteran player needs or wants. Now if I set this to max so I can play Eve the same way I have played it for 8 years, I have to wait for the tool tips to appear in space before I can select the object I want to warp to.

For example,

1) I undock in my space fairing vessel and see a flashy red guy warp off, before I could follow him, Now I cant because of the tool tip box.
2) There is cluster of planets/stations near the sun. I cant click on the sun in the middle of the objects, why? because tool tips.

These "Tool Tips" need to be refined to allow veteran players to turn them off and enjoy the Eve universe as we have for many years and allow the new players to use them and help them along in New Eden.

It mainly affects pvp'ers. It makes things hard like saving your pod from that smart bombing proteus that's warping to whatever celestial you chose. I nearly lost my pod to tooltips. Had to eject from my ship to save my pod since a smart bombing proteus was burning to me.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

I do LOVE the new ToolTip that provides your Shield/Armor/Hull information in exact numbers.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear.

That has been available to players since I started playing. Its nothing new. You can do percentage or exact. I prefer to use neither since I have this big indicator at the bottom of the screen that tells me where my shields/armor or hull are at.

I think the simplest option would be one that disables the tooltips that have no variable value in their content. The tooltlps that tell me something that changes, such as my wallet level, skill in training etc. are good.

The ones that say "THIS IS POTENTIALLY AN ENEMY SHIP, BUT YOU WON'T KNOW UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE AS I AM HELPFULLY DRAWING THIS MASSIVE RECTANGLE OVER ALL THE INFORMATION YOU ACTUALLY NEED" - not so good.

Some of them are basic usability failures IMO. The current option of delay all or none exaggerates an already failed "little thing".

You mean like the sliders for setting the delay for them bothe in client and space,
that certainly wasn't suggested as a solution by a player,
wasn't repeatedly presented by other players and then subsequently introduced into the client.
Nope, ccp are big meeny faces who don't care about us.

That is fine, and while your breaking the forum rules by opening the same thread over and over, I'm sure CCP wont do anything about that, and you wont get a forum ban.

My point was, there is already a place to talk about it, opening more threads about it, needlessly clutters up GD, because the devs are going to watch this thread as much as they watched the last 30, oh wait, no they wont, this thread will just get locked and we will be directed back to the main thread..

Those are unfortunately useless. If you delay the recently added tool tips, you also delay previous functionality we have always had, and want to retain. We get to choose between having an overly-informative UI with these annoying new pop-ups getting in the way, or having a UI that is even less informative than it was originally. A hard choice to make and both options suck.

Annoying at the moment, and I'm just logging in to change skills.

I'm sure they are useful for newer players but some of them are ridiculously long, and the way they have been deployed (without testing/option to turn off) suggests some CCP departments still have a way to go in communicating with the playerbase properly.

Still waiting to be able to turn the nauseating jump effect off though, I think we'll be moaning about this a while.

what others have said. Its a good thing, why wouldnt it be, especially for new players. However, it should have a simple option to turn off. That would make everyone happy. I personally find them annoying

At least you have a choice to make, you can still get the information just in a less responsive an prompt manner, my point however was that this choice came about largely due to jayem see posting a concise idea for a compromise that a lot of us saw merits in an pushed ccp to implement.

They are bad and those devs ignoring requests for an OFF option should feel bad.

But they and the CSM don't care, so this thread is pointless.

As was said in another thread, now very long from neglect, maybe they will introduce a new giant tooltip to cover over the gate jump animation. In this way two wrongs might equal a right.Straight

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

I, too, find the new bracket selection box of death highly irksome.
