Greetings new players! I'm participating in a project and I have some questions for you. Let's imagine that you see an advert or recruitment post for a corp that is specifically intended to recruit low SP players and bring them into 0.0.

What questions would you want answering? What would be your biggest concerns? What would be your major "well if you don't do THIS then I'm just not interested" thing be?

Further to the excellent feedback given by the gentlemen who was first to respond, I will pay 1 million ISK per useful question.

"Useful" to be defined as "useful to my purpose".

Speaking as a two week old account that moved to null immediately after finishing the tutorials, I would be happy to complete your market survey upon receipt of a million isk in game.

I asked all sorts of questions, but the one thing I forgot to ask was....."what ships does the corp commonly use?". This was a big oversight, as I had flown Gallente exclusively and my new corp rarely pilots Gallente ships. Big smile

I give my marketing information to loyalty programs in exchange for consideration (discounts, flights, etc) in return. Of course, this is the newbie forum so I want to be sure your purposes are for the benefit of newbies and not to get more bodies in your corp or more targets for me to tackle and shoot--both noble goals to be sure, but not much help to the newbies first encountering 0.0

Quid pro quo then. The most important thing to me in finding a new group to play with, in any game, is in establishing compatibility--do we share the same end goals for the game? Can we get along? The latter is only revealed by experience, but the former can be evaluated before giving membership a try. So a question I would ask, in seeing a corp recruitment poster, is "who are you and why would I want to spend time with you?" A website link is mandatory. A website with some unprotected forums one can lurk to get a sense for the dynamic is ideal.

Bittervet (no need ISK), but a few that come to mind:

* What can I do there?
* With low SP, am I any use there? Can I survive / earn ISK there?
* What's in it for me / you?
* How active is the corp / alliance?
* How active do I have to be?
* What's a CTA?
* Do you have training fleets / mentors?
* How do I earn ISK there?
* Can I mine there?
* Do you have mining fleets?
* How do I get there with everyone trying to kill me?
* What's a bubble?
* What's pod-jumping?
* How do I get my stuff there with everyone trying to kill me?
* How do I afford ships with everyone trying to kill me?
* What's a "blue"?
* Do I have to get a mic?
* How do I setup my overview?
* What's an API, and how do I get one?
* Do you have forums?
* How do I get help?

Advanced:
* Can I get jump clones? How?
* Can I use my own POS?
* What's a jump bridge?
* Can anyone use a jump bridge?
* How do I use a jump bridge?
* What's Mumble? Does it work on a Mac?

Given enough time I could come up with a lot more common questions.

The first thing I would want to know is if they want any of the following:

A deposit of some sort
Fees of some type
To contract my stuff for 'Free Delivery'

Or basically anything else that might sound like it could be a scam. In which case it is a scam.

I have reason to believe that you are not in fact a new player.

That is why he said he is not, also he helps a lot of new players and these are the most common questions people in this section of the forums have to answer.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

ISK received, many thanks! Here is the more detailed reply:

I came into this game knowing I wanted it as a PvP vehicle after several years of PvE gaming, and having read a lot about EVE over the past few months I jumped on the recent fanfest sale on Steam.

Things that have proven absolutely critical to me so far, and would be "must haves" in potential corps were I starting over from scratch again:

1) Newby FAQs to help you negotiate the sometimes desperately out of date web pages/wikis out there.
2) Free frigate program. I am only on my alpha clone still, so there are not many options for making isk out there (thanks again!) so free frigates, and the insurance off them, are one minor revenue stream.
3) Newby specific activities. Newb runs. Newb runs with newb FCs. Etc.
4) Encouragement. I have never been told "no" when I asked whether a particular fleet was open to newby tackle frigates.
5) Encouragement to lose all those free frigates! Even though the basic combat system is fairly simlpe compared to other games, the depth of combat is immense. You only learn by doing, and I think it will take me many ships to learn how to process all the incoming information. Get used to losing those ships.
6) Patience. We newbs will ask questions of our vets that area already answered on those FAQs because at the beginning its such a rush of information you cannot process it all. Its been two weeks for me and I still learn new things from those pages I have read 10 times.

Finally, an appeal to my fellow new folks considering a move to null. Just do it. You will never be ready just sitting in high sec skilling up. Get over your reservations, sell your things (send me the isk), set clone and pop your pod into null. Once there, leave station, set your own perches, learn the immediate area, shoot and get shot at, and have fun

A couple that occur to me

Will I still be able to enter hi-sec to get to the trade hubs?

Which Alliance will the Corp be associated and what responsibilities to we have in event of war?

As a new player (about 5 months or so) These are all questions i would have. I have been desperately looking for a corporation that will teach me these things. Sadly ive learned that this corporation may not exist. Once a member it always feels like the corp doesn't have time to be bothered with taking you out, spending some time with you, and actually showing you the ropes. It makes me wonder why they even bother recruiting new people. Do they get isk or something for the amount of members they have?
-
So i guess my most important question is will i be provided with a mentor that can help walk me through all these questions above?
-
I however wont hold my breath for this. I know this game is unforgiving. I love the game and will continue to play and learn on my own until i fit in somewhere.

ISKs sent. There will obviously be an interruption while expansion days works itself out, but keep the questions coming.

I am particularly interested in questions for genuinely new players because although the list that Mr Cabalander is an excellent one, it's also a very long one, and I want to focus on the most immediate common concerns to address them before people even have to say "hi".

Mr Worm's experiences are especially relevent. Of course it will be obvious that I am involved in a project that's specifically aimed at targetting newer players. I don't think it's realistic to expect a personal 23/7 1-on-1 mentor, but I am very aware that being in a group where asking "noob" questions is expected and encouraged can make all the difference in the world to a new player.

As a newbee I have only few questions: how to get there in one peace (main concern) and who will show me how to survive / make ISK there.

Then come secondary questions about skill books, market, stations for clones (so I will not have to do the trip from high sec to null again)...

I'm not a new player but i run a trainingprogram for players interested in solo/small scale PvP. I know it is specific but i can provide you what new players need the most from my point of view. And again this is very specific about what players need for solo/small scale PvP.

- To be able to ask questions, be it via forum or TS but more important constructive feedback from experienced players.

- Learn how to analyze combat situations before and after. This includes assesment before going into combat via Dscan and local. Give them the basic tools to do that and let them learn by trial and error.
This does a great deal because what bothers most players is they don't know what happened and why but with them knowing the basics they start to learn for themselves. And nothing is better in EVE than learning by doing and own experience.

- Basics and the option to train the basics.
Basics are:
Overview setup
How to use Dscan
Combat mechanics
Basic ship fittings

- Basic knowledge which ships are capable of what. E.g knowing that a Condor is in 99% a kiting ship.

The results with that kind of trainingprogram is you get players with a good portion of knowledge expanding it for themselves while not being discouraged by losses. And that is important throwing new players to the wolves without knowledge or let them be just stupid F1 drones does them no favour, they do not learn, they do not see progress, hell it is even counterproductive because they loose all drive to learn.

OP I think you are going about this backwards. New players don't know what they don't know, and your focus should be on education and quashing ignorance, and not finding the right questions to answer.

When I was a new player I didn't understand the level of protection that CONCORD gave, I was also mega-terrified of bubbles. I didn't venture into Null not because I had questions about it that I didn't understand, or lack of being able to find a Corp that wanted Rookies, but because my limited knowledge always ended at "there is no reason to attempt it".

If you really want to get Rooks into Null, I'd advise some sort of alliance where there is a Newbro Corp in empire, somewhere you can easily get to Null, and a Oldbro Corp in Null, close enough to empire, where they are welcome of Newbros.

Remember that Rookies fear "give me your ships and I'll teleport you there, trust me". Just like training a cat to pee on a toilet, you've got to guide them through the gates yourself.

Not a super new player and no need for ISK, but:

What are the details of your SRP?
What is a CTA, and why are you cool for not having them?
NBSI? NRDS? LOLWUT?
Who are your reds?
Logistics chain policy and local market status?
Sov? NPC? Both?

This may sound silly but as a genuine noob! Why should I move to 0.0 when all I read on rookie chat is anything below 0.5 is instant death lulwut. I don't believe this theory personally and plan to get out of high sec soon!
