Damage when ships have physical contact? in next update?

just watched new EVE online video: The Prophecy; in the movie after the gate was active at 3:10 two ships was running into each other and crushed. so 6/3 update would there be damage when ships physically contacted each other? i'm really pleased that CCP brings such a key common sense into the video. anyone have any more information about this in game?

No there won't be damage on bumping/colliding coming on Tuesday.

Not this Tuesday, nor any other that anyone currently knows.

The physics engine is an ancient beast which can't really be changed without rewriting pretty much everything else that concerns in-space gameplay. Ship collisions (or anything else for that matter) won't work untill that happens, and even then the question should be asked whether it's even feasible to balance. You shouldn't be able to wreck a newbie frigate to kill a dreadnought, for example.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

That would make undocking quite dangerous even in low traffic systems.

Oh god the concorden that will go on when my poor frigate gets bumped by some carebear freighter or battleship.

No bumping will not cause damage sadly.

I've only seen that for planetary bombardment, probably because there's no missiles to stuff up an unsuspecting dusties orifice without lube.

When you bump a ship your shields bounce off each other i guess? in the video shields would have been offline.

It would be cool, to be sure - but undocks would be problematic.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

In 2012 they released a video about DirectX 11 and Tessalation. They talked about having ships collide, astroids bouncing off the ship, and all that good stuff. Its now 2 years later and they havent said anything new about what they planned.

So if you see something in a trailer, dont expect it to happen anytime soon.

Hell they even talked about wanting asteroid belts so big it would take an hour to fly from one end to the other. That was two years ago.

the jita 4-4 undock is all the reason you need for why collision damage is a stupid idea.
