You are talking about a supercluster and not some common server.

Would you rather have a daily short downtime to flush the system and apply fixes, or would you rather it be running indefinitely with 1 hour long (sometimes longer) "Emergency reboots" when the servers start lagging and glitches start appearing?

Hour long DT's in the old days now like 10 minutes (with the occasional 2-3min ones) have made me gone from being able to take a shower to now only have time to poop... Worst change ever!

Yeah daily downtime of like 10-15 mins is nothing tbh. Gives me an excuse to get off my ass for a while Blink

Main reason is that there are some legacy systems that still are linked to down time like station upgrades, station installation and other in space add change scripts like rocks. This was true the last time a dev talked about it. This list has slowly shrunk however and down time has been getting close to record shortness when not dealing with release stuff. The hour long one last week was an exception to the rule.

Looks like he never dealt with patch day from a few years back...we'd be lucky if it was under 12 hours

Hmm...

I actually prefer the idea of a daily down time during which hardware changes and minor tweaks can be made without disrupting players online activity unexpectedly.

You haven't seen anything until you've seen a tristan blob drop gate cloak. put out drones, force Tidi to 10%, and crash the node in under 15 seconds.

It's also used for things like remapping the nodes, which currently can't be done live.

TQ isn't your common or garden cluster.

What goes on there is complicated
