Dev blog: Ship and Module Balancing in Kronos

With the Kronos release being published on June 3rd we are rebalancing a huge amount of ships and modules and introducing new items and ships. Freighters/jump freighters are receiving three low slots, pirate faction ships receive a full rebalancing, mining barge and exhumers are reworked, deep space transporters much improved and and and ... the result is a new exciting ship and module landscape with many great opportunities.

Will we be getting low slot drone module variants of the mid slot modules - ala TC / TE - in the near future? They were hinted at in the drone changes.

Yes indeed! We discussed that in the drone section of this blog instead of the module section, so it would have been easy to miss.

Omnidirectional Tracking Enhancers will be released in Kronos and you can try them out on our SISI test server right now!

How about some low/mid slot modules that affect missile explosion velocity, explosion radius, velocity, and flight time?

I would like to one day be able to fit something besides riggors or bay thrusters in my missile ship rig slots and something besides Damage mods and a Damage Control in the lows. Those are really the only options for missile ships and what is fitted to 90% of all PvE AND PvP shield tanked missile ships.

Are Heavy Missiles ever gonna be revisited since no one uses them anymore and everyone is now using medium rails which can reliably kill out to 200km?

Are the tracking numbers on Fighters correct on the updated spreadsheet? They are almost 3x as much as in the original spreadsheet.

Yes they are correct. Effective tracking is calculated from the combination of the trackingSpeed attribute and the optimalSigRadius attribute. We increased the optimalSigRadius (signature resolution) on the fighters from 125 to 400 so we adjusted the tracking accordingly.

400 .. seems odd that fighters being cruiser sized uses battleship sig all of a sudden??

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

I'm impressed with the amount of work you guys at ccp are putting into Kronos! I look forward to seeing what you do in the next expansion.

I don't mean to overlook all the good things you are doing, however, recently I feel like some things have been added/changed that don't feel finished or as good as they could be. For example, the mobile deployables were a great concept but in my opinion, the rules built into them severely limit their use making some of them effectively useless. The first few rounds of ship balancing has done wonders for the game but for the battleships at least, the changes didn't go far enough. The one thing attack battleships have going for them is that they can us MJDs and Target spectrum breakers (another mod that needs "fixing") but in the case of the MJD, battle cruisers are going to be able to use them.

With the MJD as an example, allowing battle cruisers to use them is a good move but IMO, giving it the same 100km jump range as the battleship version is a mistake. It basically makes it a GTFO or sniper tool Straight ...If things get iterated on quickly that's fine but if not and they need it, it could lead to the old situation were parts of the game felt neglected (see bounty system, war decs, low sec, etc.)... Maybe new items and features should be put on the server far sooner so that they are practically perfect by the time they go live.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever you guys to do in the future, i just hope that all your hard work is worth it in the end and Eve becomes the game it has the potential to be.

You will be waiting a long time for the next expansion since this is the last one they do. Things are changing after this expansion to have rolling "releases" every 6 weeks, so they are likely going to be much smaller in scale and scope compared to this one.

Crius might be the exception given they are delaying part of what was slated for this expansion to the next release.
