This.

Lens.
Flares.

Are much MUCH different than "solar flares".....not sure how someone associated with anything "spaceship" related could get the two confused.

Would really love it if looking at these bright objects would make the background stars and nebulae fade to black to at least give a more correct experience.

So here I was, expecting fiery eruptions that could destroy a ship when you WTZ on the sun...

Eye candy that's all. Waste of dev time and waste of a dev blog. Guess its a slow news day.

Move on, nothing to see here, its all rather dull.

Dear Devs,

In keeping with the theme of making EVE gritty and realistic as possible, please consider making the solar glare scale realistically. At 50 AU even betelgeuse, a stupidly massive star, would appear to be a tiny point of light in black empty space. I know people appreciate fancy graphics, but please the lighting levels are blinding.

Sincerely,

How about adding physical plasma (as opposed to just optical) stellar flares erupting on our stars? Like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Magnificent_CME_Erupts_on_the_Sun_-_August_31.jpg

I would love to see this, and also a realistic star internal. Getting too close to planets, moons, stars, etc and the graphics completely break (and therefor so does the immersion). This doesn't happen all that often, but I feel like it's unfortunate when it does :( Especially since I love making safe spots within about 150km of the exact center of a star.

Truthiness is found above.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Flares with flair!
Saw a couple of the lens effects on Sisi, very nice! OSX client.
Uhm... assuming that different suns don't give different shapes (because it's the camera)... can we have a dropdown box of a few styles? Pleez? Lol

False advertising is false. Lens Flare is VERY different from Solar Flare. Jerks. JERKY JERK JERKS!

Okay, besides that, the lens flares look nice. Thanks.

Since everyone else is jumping all over the lens vs solar flare thing (HUGE disappointment), can I just mention that lens flares don't really make sense? As from what i understand about EVE lore, the controllable "camera" is a composite of input from a cloud of "camera drones." Of course, "bloom" doesn't make sense either, as that is an atmospheric effect, and they ain't no atmospheres in spess. But whatever, if JJ can put lensflares and apple products in star trek and make a stupid amount of money doing so, who is CCP to say hes wrong?

Also, as another mentioned, the ability of stars in EVE to either grow the further one moves from them, or outright follow warping ships (!!!) is quite scary. So can growing/moving stars be addressed? As the sun falling out of orbit is one of my greatest fears. Right behind the idea of the sun being a conscious entity who will seek to maintain a uniform distance from me at all times. As, damn, the idea of constantly being watched by conscious stellar bodies is some lovecraftian level horror

Don't you find it too odd the way the halo increases right before the sun appears on screen, then quickly decreases once it is on screen?

awesome, looks very nice on the test server.

it would be nice to see those flares also from other bright light sources, e.g from ship explosions.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Beautiful...a suggestion? Why not give us wormholes and a displacement engine a la farescape or something similar to tap into sun flares and destroy capitals? Maybe even, dare I write it, blobs?

I always assumed that was adaptive light filtering. As being within 50000km of a star would mean a complete inability to see... well, anything. As since there is clearly enough atmosphere in space to scatter light necessary for bloom effects.
