It's Sunday and the first since Crucible hit, that means we should see a peak in online players today.

Will we reach 50k online?

Peak time is usually between 19:30 and 20:30 EVE Time.

Current PCU: 50,002

I don't know if this is the most recent but my weak Google Fu just returned 63,170 (check below), but I think the OP's point was less about beating the overall record (very unlikely, given current trends) and more about 'making a statement' that the game is moving in the right direction again.

Record history:
63,170 pilots online at 20:23 GMT on 23 Jan 2011
60,453 pilots online at 19:53 GMT on 6 Jun 2010
56,817 pilots online at 20:15 GMT on 24 Jan 2010
56,021 pilots online at 20:44 GMT on 10 Jan 2010
54,446 pilots online at 20:48 GMT on 3 Jan 2010
54,181 pilots online at 20:26 GMT on 6 Dec 2009
53,850 pilots online at 20:29 GMT on 15 Mar 2009
51,675 pilots online at 19:52 GMT on 8 Feb 2009
48,065 pilots online at 20:17 GMT on 18 Jan 2009

Exactly, we won't beat the record, but I think hitting the symbolic 50k would be a statement of regained confidence in CCP's overall direction.

We are all ready in the top 10.

Bingo. CCP may have done this a few times lately, but the game is moving in the right direction again.

Aww I'm out with the kids buying the Xmas tree.

Good luck!

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

I don't think the user count matters as much as the developer's commitment to the game does. People will come and go... we will see high points and low in terms of numbers for this game, especially when CCP starts extending the game to other platforms and game-types. As long as the FiS game is being developed, people will still play.

just my 2isk...

True, but I think the number of people actually playing is a good sign whether CCP are doing a good job or not. Possibly more than subs as many people sub to train skills while not actually playing the game.

agreed, a rise in the number of players (as opposed to a spike) arguably demonstrates an increased level of confidence in how CCP are treating the game. we'll see if this continues but, as pointed out, we are already in the top 10 of PCU's, not bad for a game that's had as tough a few months as EvE has.

You have to take into account that there will be lots of new 60 day trial accounts too.

The trend is what really matters. Let's see if the decline in PCU can be reversed.
