The other day I was mining in a 0.5 system when a bloke in a destroyer tried to gank me. It didn't work, my buffer was big enough to let me survive until the arrival of Concord and he lost his ship. I felt pretty bad already, so I sent him a symbolic 1m ISK to cover at least the cost of the hull, but then in local I saw that someone popped his capsule on the way back to his home base, whatever that is, which really felt rather unfair

Is there a reasonable way I can tell the guy I'm sorry that things went so badly? Seriously, I am not being sarcastic, i suspect he was not very experienced and things went probably worse than he deserved, for which I am truly sorry

Could send him a mail wishing him better luck in the future. Don't worry too much about him though, those are the risks we take in the work that we do. He'll learn from the mistakes he made that lead to his failure, as well as the loss of his pod, and be better for them.

It's quite possible he warped directly to a station after ganking you and got there before his weapon timer expired, preventing him from docking right away.

You could just find his corpse and contract it back to him. But don't forget to draw on it with sharpies first.. Cool

He won't care or be upset that he failed or got podded, at least I don't imagine so.
Once you decide you're going to gank someone, you start thinking of yourself as the bad guy. Suddenly anyone can do anything to you and you have to just laugh because you kind of deserve it.

It's just more financially viable for me.

try mailing the guy see if he wants to do a double gank with you against something he cant solo. That will make it up to him :P

This is the correct etiquette for all post combat communication whether gank, 1v1, 1v blob, whatever.
If you genuinely thought it was a gf then you can enlarge from there.

Give him proper advice on how to be more successful in the future, then the cycle will be complete.

Karma is knowing the other guy deserved it. I never feel bad when I gank someone's barge. They should have bought a permit, so karma is working as intended.

Don't feel bad for us gankers. We sometimes take precautions to ensure success, and sometimes do a "#yolo gank" - i.e. no preparation, just go for it and see what happens. I've even been known to "#yolo gank" Procurers because a Vexor can solo one in 0.5 if they are low skilled and untanked.

When that happens, we don't mind failures. They keep us sharp.

Either your attacker learned an important lesson about setting instadock bookmarks, or alternately, they need to be reminded again to set instadocks or at least to take care when docking. Their mistake, not your problem.

I like to wardec the involved parties in petty much anything that happens involving me. I think it gives a more complete experience to follow through with a war. It might work for you too.

I got wardecced by a, uh, ganking client once.

A quick bit of intel told me we didn't play at the same times (I ganked him on a weekend but normally I'm only on close to downtime) so I opened up the war to allies that suited his timezone better. Needless to say that corporation did not mine much during the next week.

If I don't manage to pop you, or your fleet manages to get me first, then it was a good fight, and its ok, I expect I will lose some of the time. Saying that, I don't really gank so I am not sure this thread applies to me directly.

Whether his gank was successful or not, you should thank him for his services and effort and offer a friendly "gf' in local.


People who give me a 'gf' after a failed attempt I tend to leave alone out of respect, but if you decide to use local to regale me with tales of my mother's bedroom exploits or describe in false detail the size of my manhood , You may regret it.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

As a professional CODE enforcer, I can assure you that when I fail - I learn from the experience. If he's "Doing It Right" [TM] then he took something more valuable from the fight then a 4-12m catalyst loss, he learned what he can and cannot
