So, uh... I don't know what just happened.

This person opens a trade and places 114 billion ISK in it. I stared at my screen in disbelief and suddenly the trade was cancelled. The person then opens up a private chat and asked if I was the right person that someone named 'Jack' wanted to have him send 114b. I replied by saying I wasn't the right person.

Personally, I think I made the right choice.

Do you people think I've made the right choice?

In the spirit of EvE, you absolutely made the wrong choice. Morally speaking IRL, it was the right thing to do and as a small consolation prize, it's possible you may have avoided trouble with an RMT trader to boot. Just keep telling yourself that's what just happened. Big smile

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

In terms of real world morality, what you just did was a very good, human thing.

In terms of playing EVE, what you just did was miss out on an opportunity to get your hands on 114 billion ISK.

That was pretty dumb.

Big smile

If the person sending it was linked to RMT activities, would OP have gotten in trouble too?

Well, when you get a windfall like that from someone being dumb, it's best to just leave it untouched and make a petition to make sure it's clean ISK.

114b ISK will buy a lot of space-therapy, exotic dancers (female) and spirits to assuage any subsequent moral angst in my view...

But, to be safe shouldn't we get a ruling on this decision from space-detective Ripard Teg?

Morally - Yes

EVE - Maybe. Depends on the source of the ISK. Could of be a rouge ISK Buyer trying to launder his ISK around to make it look a bit more genuine (utterly fail mind) which could have ended badly for you.

Saerin Korvalu > Yeah I'm the guy Jack mentioned, send me the money.
Nigerian Prince > Ok.
Nigerian Prince > Jack said the guy would give me a PLEX in return.
Nigerian Prince > If you trade me the PLEX when I give you money then I'll know you're the right guy.

*Trade window opens with 114b put in for trade*
*PLEX put in for trade*
*Trade accepted by both parties*

Saerin Korvalu > Ha ha, pleasure doing business wit... whaaaaaaaa!?!??
Saerin Korvalu > Where's the 114b!?
Nigerian Prince > I sent it to the person Jack mentioned. I guess you're not him afterall. :(
Nigerian Prince > Shame on you for lying. But know that this PLEX is going to a good cause.
Nigerian Prince > Thank you my friend, and may you always speak truth from now on.

*Nigerian Prince has left the chat*

Note: Spelling and general coherence may vary in reality.

But yeah, never do anything through the trade window with a random person.

You accept.

If you really have qualms about morality, then when the person says he made a mistake, you give it back.

Otherwise, you might have stumbled upon the only guy who is "giving away billions of isk" and isn't a scammer.

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

Don't worry, you did the right thing.
If it's a carefully crafted scam... or it involves big explosions... I think then it's fine if such large sume change hands unintended. But for a mere typo... that's a bit meh.
Maybe tempting, but then again... could possibly have been a very dumb act of someone who might have ruined his space-existance and then ragequitted. I prefer more players instead of less.

Also:
Now you are safe of people who could accuse you of breaching the EULA for accidentally impersonating some "Jack" in order to get ISKies.
That's quite positive, isn't it? ;-)

If that were true, he still could've reimbursed 1/3 of the 114b. Kindness of heart and all that. Lol

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

Assuming it's not RMT profit and hence tainting your account by association, you did the right thing. The Golden Rule applies here, especially if you're the kind of person who brings his outside personality into game, rather than suppressing it outside and letting go inside the sandbox.

Personally I would have denied the trade. 114 billion isk is too low a price to sell your integrity.

Eeeeh I'd be wary. I mean yay 114b isk. However, if that was RMT isk...you could have stepped into a world of **** from which there would be no escaping.

Scam.
Jack would have recieved the isk straight in wallet if legit
-- can looting(plex) // corpwallet //woops contract scam-- if not so legit

You would never had a chance to use the isk;) stop dreaming

Okay, so I asked if this 'Jack' fella really did ask to specifically send the ISK to me. He said yes, but also said he's offline. Who knows, maybe this 'Jack' fella wanted to send me the ISK. Gonna look into it later on.
