I'm a new player for a few days now, I'm confused what I should do...

I like to Scan using probes, but when I find a wormhole I'm too afraid I'll get PKd there because someone else would already be in there and I don't got the cloaking skill yet...

I can find for Magnetromatic sites but there's NPC's there...

What should I do..?

Join a wormhole corp. There are several.

You can otherwise solo any C1 or C2 site in a battlecruiser. Start with those.

I lived in w-space with my corp for about 2.5 years. I lost 2 ships to w-space PvP because I was stupid and walked into a trap with my eyes open, both times.

I'm already in a Corp...

The current corp I'm in is from a different online game, they have introduced me to this game lately, getting 21 trial first, I liked it, got a PLEX and activated my account.

So looking for a new corp is not really an option for me, but if it's really necessary I'll give it some thoughts about it.

C1 or C2, you mean the 'Low Mass' WH's right? How does this work? I forgot to mention that I don't even know what wormholes are exactly for... Also, should I be probing in High Sec to find these C1 WHs?

Another thing, what skills set and ship should I work for?

C1 and C2 refer to the class of the system the wormhole leads to, you can consider them difficulty ratings for the npc's that you will find in them. The main point to wormhole space is that they are the only source for certain components necessary to the production of strategic cruisers. Not all wormholes lead to wormhole space. here is a wiki article http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Wormholes

Chances are that if you can't deal with the rats (NPC ships) in the hi-sec mag sites then you won't be able to deal with them in wormhole space and you may want to consider training up for a little while before you try to tackle them.

Aye, thanks for that.

I've decided to start training Shield skills for now for the Drake I'm going to aim for.

But what skills in particular should I go for?

For drake its easy:

You need decent Missile skills (work toward heavy missile specialistaion, but HML lvl 4 is a good start) with decent missile support skills (4's on all relevent)

You need shield skills - operation, upgrades, tactical manipulation, all 4 compensation, etc... to alt least lvl 4

shield rigging skill at least lvl 1

You may also need CPU/PG skills

Enginering/Electronics 4 is a must i guess

For solo Drake go for a passive shield tanking (shield power relays II's in lows, core defence field purgers in rigs Large shield Extenders/Shield Rechargers + Invuls + EM hardener in mid)

8th HI slot should fit salvager if you plan to solo WH.

Level 4... Wow... That's a lot.

That'll take me ages, easy way for CCP to make money from rookies I guess.

You are able to get all Missile, Navigation and Frigate Skills you need to III within the 21 day trial along with some basic tank skills and Engineering/Electronics IV, so thats basically free. And you have to remember, that WH is no early game, but can be a challenge even for experienced players. You can make good money in Highsec with less skills, a normal cruiser and scanning by looking for Radar sites.

My tip for the early scanning Char:
Astrometics IV
Astrometic Pinpointing III
Astrometic Aquisition III
Astrometic Rangefinding III
- with this you should be able to Scan most if not all High sec sites. Get yourself some Sisters Core probes if you have the money.

Frigate IV (Whichever Race you prefer) and the Scanning Frig (Magnate, Heron, Probe or Imicus)
Get the skills for the following Equipment:
2 x Tech I Gravity Capacitor Upgrade rig
Core Probe Launcher
Core Probes

The rest doesnt Matter, as thats now your Scanfrig.

Now get the Skills (III is sufficient for High sec) for a Combat Ship. Choose a combat Frig like Punisher, Kestrel, Incursus or Rifter. That means: (all to III)
Weapon Skill (Small Turrets appropiate to your race or Missiles in the case of the Kestrel)
Tank Skills (Either Armor or Shield, not both. Appropiate to your race)
Some Fitting Skills (Engineering/Electronics)
Navigation (Afterburner/Fuel Conservation/Evasive Maneuvers)

You will also need the Field Engineer Skills:
Hacking
Archeology
salvaging

To get money out of the sites you found. Hacking is worth the most, although the Archeaology/Salvage Sites have been improved in the last patch, so they could be worthwhile too now.

One last note: If you found a site, note the name of the site and google it before you warp to it. So you already know, what you can expect.

That should be sufficient to solve most sites. If you feel you need some more power either ask a Corpmate to help or get a Cruiser.
