I'm new to this game.
While sitting in my captains quarters this alert came across one of my monitors.
what exactly was that all about?
I was able to pull up the star map location shown on the monitor for the incursion and it showed a group of star systems in red. Did this have anything to do with it?
when I look at the monitor at the incursion points it also shows jump numbers. Is this how far away the incursions are from the system I am in?

You remind me of that dude in the matrix.

"The meeting is over, an incursion is coming."
"Incursion?!"

It means that you should prepare for an influx of self-important doucey capsuleers to invade your region. And I don't mean your teen-region, because that would be better than what is about to happen. The best thing to do is to check the zkill for the region for hilarious ganks of pimp incursion boats getting ganked. Those are funny as hell.

It's a PvE feature that was introduced with much fanfare and story which fizzled out and is just still kinda there. People make boatloads of ISK with them and they tend to create a lot of drama when you take their toys away, like mothership spawns, so I guess there won't be any change or new story to them any time in the foreseeable future.

That's not really fair. If Null Anoms were totally removed the noise that would result would deafen the forums for months. Look at the noise over just a few tweaks to how profitable certain of them were.
Removing an entire PvE segment of the game or doing major changes to it is always going to be a huge thing.
Also, the overall amount of money made by incursions isn't actually 'that' much relative to the economy of EVE. People like to throw around huge figures but they are best case figures and ignore all the times that you have no incursion to run, that it's sub optimal sites, or that you are loosing contests.

I assume that the (45) jumps figure that was on the monitor was how far away the incursions were taking place.
Is there a way to track what happens in New Eden using the Eve Droid app? I don't get to play the game a lot but would like to keep up to date with what's going on in the "Sandbox".

Easy solution: don't sit in your CQ any longer. The actual game is outside, CQ serves no purpose other than to confuse.

Incursions are cooperative PVE content that make entire constellations very dangerous for any other activity than running the incursion sites (which you might think of as "level 6, 7 and 8 security missions" of a sort).

They are designed for fleets for 10-11 people with dedicated logistics ("healer ships") and have sites oriented at larger fleets too.

Some incursion runners get a bit obsessed and use ridiculously expensive modules on their ships to shave off a couple seconds from each site completion. These people are good to blow up. The loot they drop is expensive; the tears, priceless.

So what your telling me is that what comes up on these monitors is not true?
If that's the case then why did it starmap the sites the incursion was taking place and if not in your C.Q. were else can you see what is happening real time in the game?

CQ is basically fluff, and most veterans turn it off because there's nothing worthwhile in there, in terms of gameplay, and it adds a lot of overheard to the otherwise lightweight state of being docked up.

The stuff on the monitors is generally "true" but there are better, more useful ways to get the same information through the normal UI.

For instance, if you want to see where incursions are, hit F10 to open your map. If it's not already in star map mode, change it to Star Map via the map control panel.

Then, under the starmap tab, go to stars and turn the filter to "incursions" - presto, there are all the incursions in the universe.

...and also, have you figured out the secret push/delay sequence for the locked door in the captains quarters yet? You definitely want to open that before bothering going outside.
