Hi,

In the last mass test (May 22nd) we had unusual amount of sound related problems reported, in particular sound stuttering, cutting out and such.

As we have not been able to properly reproduce these bug on our work machines (which are hugely overpowered beasts) I'd really appreciate if everyone who is having those kinds of problems to please respond to this thread with your computer specs, so we can see if any pattern emerges.

We have a plan to introduce a configurable limit to the sound engine, and it would be really great to get a baseline for the low limit, as we can figure out the high limit on our own workstations.

Kindest regards,

RealX.

Thank you all.

From the looks of it, it is not caused by hardware limitations.

We have identified some suspected culprits which we will patch soon after Kronos, some module sounds were being streamed from disk instead of memory (to save memory) which is a really bad idea in big fleet fights.

FYI I was also there, also had sound stuttering during the fleet fight (but not the POS bash), and my system only has SSD's. Still not as fast as main memory of course, but that would have had to be a lot of very large sound files to stutter from an SSD. Complete specs:

Intel i7-2600k @ 4.3GHz
16GB RAM
GeForce GTX 680 4GB (client using DX11)
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB
Win8.1 64-bit

EDIT: Oh, and P8P67 EVO mobo with Realtek ACL892 onboard sound

I also have both EVE client installations on a SSD and still I experienced the audio problems on the 22nd, though in my case the OS and other 'bulk' files are on a traditional magnetic HD. Other hardware details as posted previously in the thread.

The problem seemed less pronounced in the latest mass test on the 28th, but it was still present to a degree. Also, as reported in the questionnaire, in the last test I experienced a 'murmur' of weird, low level noise when zoomed in on a large fleet blob. Speculating this may be due to low level audio distortions/rounding errors from DSP adding up to audible levels.

I've added the option of limiting the total voice count in the system menu, that along with CCPWhiteNoiseTrash's changes with moving some sound from hard drive into memory should show better sound performance.
