Final aspect to bring about for these sort of games is the simple fact it is a mmo vs single player. MMOs have to worry about the triad. Network, Graphics, and Performance. Eve has gotten to the point that Network is constantly in the way of better graphics/immersion though Performance hurdle was jumped over twice already with SM 1 from way back when about 15 years ago now and the Sm2 removal whic hitself is about 9 years old soon enough. SM3 being minimal requirement now was introduced in 2006 so its now about 6 years old now.

Graphics has NOTHING to do with networking whatsover, or at least SHOULD NOT. The server only keeps track of physics of the ship (collision etc). The server/network has NOTHING to do with textures, models, particles and so on.

On another note; Eve really could benefit from higher res/better textures and effects but it's not exactly something that should have priority over gameplay.

Here's another old game with impressive graphics; Haegemonia http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=jmjJpy4ubgs#t=88s

Effects and such are handled client side, so they can easily be turned down for low end computers.
Eve could use;

-Shield hits effects
-Better turret shooting effects and sounds
-Better explosions

Lets be honest, explosions are just cool :D

Pre-rendered in 2005, meaning that computers now, and graphics engines now are more then capable of doing that live rendered. I am pretty sure my 580 can keep up with those graphics no problem.

Oh by the way, I am actually playing nexus right now. The damage effects on the ships are better. the explosions are better. the engines look WAY better. The weapon fire looks better. The effects of blowing up look better. The only thing that doesn't look better is the ambient background out in space.

can computer run it? yes
can most people who play mmo's run it? probably not and the worst thing u can do is cut your market by 90% by making the graphic requirement so high
on of the many issues with incarna is most people can't run it at decent FPS, if your forced to use it which is what ccp said would happen it cuts out huge chunks of the player base.

also the only thing i liked in the video is it looked like there were directional weapons instead of eve's style of 8 guns max and they all aim in all directions
and i liked the shield block effect... everything else looks meh

The first nexus was really good and looked great too... But it was more of a pseudo rts where you controlled a fleet and not single ships. Pretty sure second nexus was going to go that route as well.

They were making a BSG mod for it which looked awesome... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScaMyMn2UCI And then they got a cease and desist after it was randomly featured on some gaming tv show. :(

X series is great, until you realize your playing it alone.

Black Prophecy is horrible... Couldn't even bring myself to login when beta testing it after awhile.

Infinity... Highly doubt it will ever come out.

agreed, EVE would look so much more awesome with much more awesome LOD.

agreed, EVE would be unplayable in fleet combat with such awesome LOD

*sad*

maybe we can settle in between and get a flight recorder to re-render an engagement (offline) at x-times the level of detail with downloadable insane texture sizes. Big smile

but must say i love their pulse laser effects, dunno how they managed to slow down light to make it behave that way, but looks awesome!

See that is what I would love... Some tools for vids as an optional download.

Those graphics could be rendered easily on a current gen video card.

we had this topic already. read my other posts. Eve's bottleneck is not the GPU

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I would also like to point out that a suprising amount of people play eve on computers that have issues running homeworld 2, and if we made eve beautiful, it would be difficult for them no?

I was thinking more of stubborn, suicidal refusal to listen to customers. What?

The poll at the official forums is 53% against single player ship and 47% in favor, including those who wishful think that either more flyable ships may be added later, or the new drones will actually be like flying the old M6 without a cockpit. Roll

Bear in mind that we are talking about the official forums and the voters are people who bought at least one of the X-Series games, aka paying customers.

This single flyable ship and having the Capitals handled by an AI developed by Egosoft kinda curbs my enthusiasm to a very slim amount...

The problem with the X series is that once you actually get the hang of it, it's not all that deep, quite cramped, and, in the end, not as visually impressive as it might first seem due the huge amounts of cheats they've employed to make it look good in stage shots… Straight

Then again, it's a rather different kind of game: it's more about figuring out the best way to automate and optimise the flow of goods, and about how to manage a lot of tiny pieces on the board at once.

Dear Forum,

I have to agree, the way how BP transport the Feel of the Universe and the Missions is great and EvE should go a similar way as a simulator. But not as fast-paced WC-Ego-Shooter styled game.

EvE is better in the complexity and its way of world, but BP is much better in get that in scene.
