Cloaking counter's

I was wondering if CCP was going to introduce a means of countering the cloaking system that ships use in EVE in any of

the up coming expansions. I haven't had much chance to keep up on the news lately, Real life has been busy.

With all the newts and campers around, we really need some kind of means for scaring them off.

I am thinking of something along the lines of the combat senor probes and moon scanner probes that are already out there.

These anti-cloak probes would be shot out to the "Large Belt Cluster" for example, maybe requiring five probes to cover the

entire belt, and they would send out something like a sonar pulse. Any cloaked ship would then be detected. Maye also add a

model that can detect cloaked ships with in 20k of your ship, depending on your skills.

I am not wanting CCP to nerf the cloaking system as it is, I like using my cloaky haulers. I would just like some small means

of tracking down a cloaky camper and shooting him or her. Twisted

I do not believe that this suggestion in any way nerfs or hinders a players ability to use cloaks or camp a system, the system

owners would still have to send probes to all the belts and planets to find the other players so it doesn't effect things all that

much as far as i can tell.

It just make the newts earn their kills and campers not being able to AFK camp as easily.

What are your thoughts on all this?

This is W&T mate. Most of the regulars live in lowsec.

We don't give a damn about cloaky campers.

Hell, we probably wouldn't even notice them among the dozens of 'not blues' we regularly share systems with.

Cloaking is fine, for the love of EVE please do not start the 1,000th redundant thread.

Do the right thing: ask an ISD to close this thread, and go post in one of the other 999.

Thanks in advance. Smile

Not even a stealthy nerf thread. This months anti afk cloak/local Intel thread is extra uninspired.

I'd rather have an afk cloaky in system that no one in system. Good way yo burn time searching for him and watching my back.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

For wspace this makes kinda sense ... however in 00 ?
You got your local for intel + killboards, master that and be prepared for what you learn from the intel ;)

Also on grid only detection ? This may be the death for that solo sabre camping a 00 route, but wouldn't affect any safespothugging covertcynos, this makes the entire concept even worse for anything outside wspace and ruins the profession of solo sabres(pick any other dictor of your chioce with bubble + cloak) ;)

And i'm 100% sure, wspace doesn't want your "sonar" Pirate

Using this logic I need a counter to log offs. I mean seriously someone could log in, at any time and appear any where, I have no means to dscan them, they don't show up in local, until the very moment they log in, and we have no counter to it!!!!

Seriously, cloaks are fine.

The best counter to cloaking is to run LVL 4 missions in motsu.

You have a valid option to 'beat' the cloakers - you just don't like it.

I can't decide if you 'cloaking is unfair' guys want an easy button or an I win button. Watch what you ask for. I win buttons get seriously boring at a rapid rate. An 8-10 year old will be happy with an easy button for 1-2 years and then get bored. [yeah, if you're over 11 easy buttons sux as much as I win buttons]

You guys want easy isk, just buy a plex. If you want to earn your isk through game play... quit whining and play the game.

There is a counter to cloaks... get within 2500m... and magically they decloak...

Very hard to do anything while cloaked...

So I guess we agree that activating a properly fit cloaking module is a valid game mechanic.... I'll foward this groung breaking conclusion to the development team and get them working on it right away.

As usual your problem is not the cloak in and of itself... your problem is that you know the cloaked person is in the system... usually before he loads the grid...

But lets change my regular "remove local" rant with a move into a wormhole and you will never have to worry about local again :p

You want your icebelt to be safe? Put some effort into it and bubble that place. Want to deal with cloaky camps? Bait them into an engagement they'll lose.

As is now, a dedicated camp can already with great proficiency deal with cloakies.

Also, how is it this exact topic pops up every now and then? I've soon played for a year and I can't even count the number of times I've read posts like this.

Get on Comms, or die typing.

afk cloaking has a direct correlation to paid subscription accounts. For that reason alone, it's not likely you will ever see them go away.

Leave system. If they follow you, they're not afk.
Look at their kill board. Do some research on kills and activity.
Many of them are just scouts. Traffic advisors and such.
Some of them are cyno fit.
Some are hunters.
Fit your ship to counter them if you're worried.

There is just no correlation between risk and reward for afk cloaky campers. 1 guy can make a system more or less useless for isk generating or make the users of said system jump through a whole lot of hoops for very little security. With basically no risk. "Go somewhere else" and "make a counter" are very good answers indeed, but it is still one guy forcing his will upon others. With minimal risk to himself.

I agree with those who want some kind of way to scan down cloakers. It should be hard yes. and easily avoided if you move your cloaked ship around. It would add some fun cat/mouse gameplay and would give people who want to shut down a system some risk for what in my eyes seems to be a rather high reward.

Yiu just need to give the cloakers an incentive to decloak voluntarily. Try ratting in an Officer-fitted CNR, for example. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to decloak.

Your reasoning is all kinds of wrong.

For the cloaky:
RISK: low (getting into the system in the first place; zero if he found a lucky wormhole)
REWARD: zero

For the demented* renters:
RISK: moderate (it's f*ing nullsec, what did you expect? zero risk? wtf?)
REWARD: ISK

Working as intended.

*Demented is a particularly accurate adjective in the case of bots
