Posting this for great justice:

Use Classic Shell to make Win 8.1 look and act like Win 7.

Easy peasy lemon squeezie!

Whilst Win8 is pathetic and annoying and frustrating ... the only issue I have had with EVE is a regular "Windows is out of memory message" even though I have 8Gb of ram.

Had the same issue it had something to do with the registry settings Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200. Went into the registry and and made a few edits to it and now its all good. Also downloaded the most recent drivers for the E2200 that came out not to long ago. My comp has been running smooth ever since.

I have had this issue, but only when running EVE and Teamspeak (or any voice comms) at the same time, and i have 12GB of ram.. What exactly did you have to change in the registry? Was it just enabling or diabling a functionality?

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with Eve on Windows 8.1? My laptop has Windows 8, and has been asking me to upgrade to 8.1 for ages now. The only real reason I haven't is in case it messes with Eve. Any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

Eve works well in Win 8.1
Eve also works well with Surface Pro with Win 8.1

Dont let Microshaft tell you what to do.

Stick with anything other than Win8.

Win8 = LoseIt

You're an idiot.

Windows 8 is as good, if not better than windows 7 in terms of its UI.

Well, I work in the it community and deal with lots of different companies, not one person I've spoken to likes it or wants it, demand for win7 has gone up. I'm the only one who doesn't mind windows 8 in work, most of my colleagues want it to die in a fire.

edit, eve works well for me on 8.1

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

I run Eve with windows 8.1, works fine. Windows 8.1 itself is perfectly viable, you just need to download classic shell so that you never see any of the windows 8 bits again.

I'll wait for Win 9.

Even though you can disable it, just knowing the Metro UI is there, lying dormant on my drive somewhere, is enough to make me puke in my mouth a little.

I used Win XP for nearly 10 years, and I can happily see myself running Win 7 for just as long.

Been using Eve on windows 8.1 since 8.1 came out. Zero problems. It's my favorite OS.

actually they broken search functionality in 8.1.
In 8 you could press "Win" and then "device ma" and get link to Device Management.
In 8.1 you get nice links to some garbage collectors of internet like msn.com and other.... And you actually can't find anything oon your own PC.....

Other things i'm perfectly Ok with

devmgmt.msc works

I had no issues doing multi monitors. It was actually easier than Windows 7, just plug and play.

The task manager is actually sorted now by active programs and background applications.

I've seen no extra clicks for anything.

Sure, it's no Google Chrome, but we're getting there.

Win 8 has caused me nothing but issues. One of the more hilariously aggravating side effects is their touch screen implementation combined with some of the manufacturer's drivers on my laptop. It makes the launcher utterly unusable(the computer thinks the launcher is on the touchpad interface, and the mouse cursor bounces off that portion of the screen while the launcher is the active window), and has relegated that machine to being used mostly for single clients, while my desktop Win 7 still runs like a dream and actually has a start button.

+1 for Win 7. Quite love it tbh.

Win 8 on the other hand. Ugh My wife has it on her laptop and it is a constant source of aggravation and irritation.

The reasons that I avoid "APPS" like the plague are many. So long as you take the time to force windows 8 to behave less like metro and more like windows the better your experience gets.

So if I force the new OS to behave like the old OS I already run it gets better?

Windows 7 is the new Windows XP where Windows 8 is the new Windows Vista.

Like with XP, I'll be using Windows 7 until the bloody end.

Me and my dad were going to get a laptop for my grandma so that she could browse the web and send emails. We wanted a windows 7 laptop, but all the store had were windows 8 laptops (because microsoft is great company and they want to force their awesome operating system on you). We told the sales person that we did not want windows 8, because we had no experience with it and we heard very bad stories about it. The sales person offered us a 'course' in windows 8, because windows 8 is supposedly very awesome. We told the sales person that if even we did not know how to use windows 8, my grandma at the age of 80 would certainly not be able to use it before she died. We left the store without a laptop and bought a second hand one with windows 7.

tldr: Don't use windows 8

Using Windows 8.1 x64 for a while now, not had an issue yet. I run multiple clients on multiple monitors, switching between them is just as easy as it ever was, and they run at the same fps as when I was using Windows 7.

I think all the hate directed towards Windows 8 is due to people not liking change.

People comparing Windows 8 to Vista really don't remember the issues that Vista used to have.
