nonono, not time travel again.

I just wanted to explain why I think we can suspect, even on a character level, that there is a link between wormhole space, and the past of new eden.

1. the presence of sleepers and talocan. On its own, it doesn't mean much, could be coincidence. We're not even sure who or what the sleepers really are.

2. The cataclysmic event that led to the creation of wormholes. Again on its own, its a little weird. could be a natural phenomenon, but why would it have happened in k-space and in the unknown systems that might be separated by time and/or space.

3. Mark726's conclusion that wormhole space is not a far away place, but rather close to k-space and a part of the galaxy new eden is in.

So now my character has the following: If new eden is our house, then wormhole space is a room that was both hidden and inaccessible. But something happened, on both sides of the wall, to make big holes in that wall. And finally, its not an empty room, but one filled with treasure and mistery and ancient races.

This makes even my character suspect that there is far more going on here, and that anoikis is not only connected to new eden by wormholes, but by its past aswell.

Could be similar to the effect of say, a lake closing off from a larger body of water and thus containing ancient species of fish. (Loch Nes Monster anyone?) It's entirely possible that this was the case, that some cataclysmic event sometime after humans colonized New Eden and before the reformation of known civilization essentially broke New Eden up and separated a sphere or ring (as Mark suggested) of systems, thus preserving the ancient (human) races that developed there, completely separate from the influences of New Eden.

Only the liberty of the individual assures the prosperity of the whole. And this foundation must be defended.

At any cost

The only real connection there could be is the EVE Gate.

Changes in the EVE Gate during the events of the Empyrean Age novel did lead to the whole Apocrypha storyline, in a roundabout way. Is it too far a leap to conclude that perhaps the answers lie there... both figuratively and literally? A common source, an origin, a starting point?

No, I believe the OP got it at least partially right (I can't say for sure about some). The Sleepers and Talocan both existed as 'races' outside of Anoikis. Something made them visit Anoikis. Then Anoikis closed off. That's I think as far as we can say with 100% accuracy.

There are a lot of quarantined sleeper sites right, a lot of sites that suggest an incurable epidemic?

I haven't followed other theories in a while but I always got the impression Anoikis was the home of the Talocan/Sleepers and that these races made an exodus back to what we recognise as K space, quarantining Anoikis space completely by sealing all access to it due to some kind of disease.

The trigger for the wormholes could have been made by the Talocan/Sleepers in the hopes that one day they could return with a cure for the rest of their people still quarantined in cryogenic stasis, but this trigger would have to be elaborate so that there was a low chance of the wormholes being reactivated and the quarantine deactivated.

Building on this I believe that the Talocan/Sleepers were unsuccessful in their exodus/search for a cure (Hence why they're not around today in K space) and may have come into contact with the Jovians, potentially passing onto them what we recognise as the Jovian disease, or contributing to its existence somehow.

Perhaps that's why a Jovian set up the events which triggered these wormholes in the first place, maybe the Jovians want to study Anoikis space and it's inhabitants to find clues about what aflicts them, potentially allowing the Jovians to thrive again.

Maybe that's where they were when Kuvakei took that Jove station... Lol

Rather I'd say that something made them cross over from whichever side they started ... I do not necessarily conclude that no one started in Anoikis.

I have been curious about the sleepers myself so have been piecing together an idea of what happened to them based upon descriptions of sleeper sites and LCO, also using standard story telling conventions and some (hopefully) small amounts of sci-fi cliches.

Sleepers: Functionally extinct and yet alive and as numerous as the stars, sleepers (or what ever they may call themselves) are slaves to the very machines that obediently serve them. While little is known about their specific physiology it is believed that they have become physically dependent on their medical technology that that keeps them in suspended animation and psychologically dependent on sophisticated virtual reality, it is unlikely that they are even able to survive without them both at this point. The fact that they put themselves in such a state and in isolated, far flung, dangerous sectors of space with vicious drones protecting them suggests that sleepers are paranoid, xenophobic or incapable of facing the universe, or all of those.

I believe that the sleepers are a race of humans who developed the idea that they no longer had use of physical forms and collectively stored themselves in the various stations and larger sites that can be found. I believe that the ships that attack capsuleers are automated defenses of their various assets. The sansha discovered the sleepers earlier and have adapted the tech of the sleepers to produce their incursions and abduct billions of people to fuel their war machine. I also suspect that part of the harvest is being used by the sleepers to escape their virtual prisons in exchange for supplying sansha with any needed tech.

Duh Duh Duh Duuunnnnn

Also if you read the final chapter of the first book then you may notice that the wormhole to new eden doesn't appear to be closed to keep us in but rather to keep something else out.... Also the jovian disease came about by too much genetic testing and modifications of themselves to a point where they almost weren't human any more... It could be possible that the sleepers are a race that developed along similar lines but reached a point of modifying themselves into a virtual hive. The jovians could have been aware of this force and hence would explain why they would provide the empires the tech needed to make capsuleers and pods to control ships as well as things such as clones. They might do this in an attempt to give humanity a chance to resist whatever it is that's coming.
