"Ship scan detected!"

Recently I've watched video clip of Elite: Dangerous and there was simple yet powerful moment: interface output message "ship scan detected" - meaning someone was trying to scan down the pilot who has made the clip.

One of the reasons why I don't like non-hi-sec zones is EVE's tedious 10 (?) years old mandatory directional scan mini-"game" with Excel output - which was elegantly replaced in ED with a single phrase. Could be nice to see EVE's abomination of mini-games replaced or enhanced with that "ship scan detected" phrase (instead of clicking "scan" button every 2-5 seconds).

Are you talking about a defensive scan that pings when you're being dscanned or probed down?

OP wants idiot mode. You should be scanning for them, OP. Short scan is not a game; it's your best friend.

You fail to address the 'tedious' comment. It is tedious.

Maybe CCP could lift a leaf from that other new space game I saw a demo for ages ago where you point the scanner in a direction and it gives some kind of spiffy EM signal from various celestials. You then use probes on the map to enhance this.

You effectively add another layer of difficulty (or ease) to scanning by allowing harder signatures for sites or for allowing the quicker location of particular sites/ship types. It could also make a secondary use for the 'ship scanner' module by allowing it to work via probes and new-d-scan to give out ship types. Without ship scanner module you only get a ship signal which you can lock and warp to, you need ship scanner to get an actual type beyond rough size catagory.

Hijacking this thread to suggest auto refresh Dscan with simplified outputs and the option to customize its filter independent of the overview.

There is an idea of a Gay Pornstar; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

I am positive about OP's suggestion. It is no brainer that a ship can detect radar sweeps, even back in WWII.

- Eve has d-scan, in this case pulse of signal wave bursting outside from your ship.
- (Middle ...)
- Eve has cloaking module, which is counter to d-scan.
- In this case, one logic is missing! This game can detect signatures and the same game can divert signatures that are trying to detect. But, it doesn't have the middle, which is a warning about those signatures.
- This can be a module like "scan detector". In a game like this, happening in the future, game should already has this ability internally available in all of its ships.

D-scan doesn't have it's consequences. In IRL EWAR, when you enable your radar sweep, you're vulnerable against enemy radar signal detectors. I can go much forward and say that, too much d-scaning in small amount of time should make you warpable in someone else's d-scan whose ship is in range as your d-scan computer

I didn't fail to address it. It's irrelevant. Putting on a seat belt is tedious; it keeps you alive.

Yes, because everything in EVE is based on RL.

IRL we definitely have ship scans that give instant results across 14.3au.

Cheap comment.
Handful number of things in eve have relations of some sort with RL. It is easy to cover your eyes for not to see them.
Also, what I meant wasn't meant to be immediately related with an explicitidy within game features.
It was an example of an action-consequence pattern. Post clearly describes what is missing. No need to argue over something else.

It's not just about "dumb mode" anymore: uncompetitive period in EVE's history is over and now it's about decision - which game I'll choose to play today having accounts in 5 spaceship MMOs?

How about putting belt on every 5 seconds? This is exactly that EVE is doing. I bet with safety like that most of the population would say "to hell with this belt" in few minutes.
