I exposed (yes, deliberately so!) him to a bunch of EVE trailers and told him my reasons as to why I am playing and now he is downloading a 14 day trial and he is asking me questions of all sorts, character creation, race, etc.

I linked EVElopedia to him but I honestly have few answers for him because I rarely talk to people who doesn't know what EVE is so any "beginner tips and tricks" you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I just have a couple of advices..Dont try to show him to many things at once. Start off small, like take him with you mission running or something. Because of the fact that Eve is so deep its very hard for a new player to try and comprehend it all. Have him do the tutorial missions, ask him to look around on the forums and so on,and if your not planning to have him join your corp right away (sp requierments and on) send him towards eve uni.
If your corp has a public channel and they are ok with it invite him in there so he can ask them questions and have someone to small talk to as well.

Also dont flood him with ISK. Give him a couple of mill so he can loose a few frigs, but make sure its not so much that he wont have to work for it. If he has to earn it him self it will give more of a sense of accomplsihment.

Good luck Smile

Don't. The best part about Eve is that people can do whatever they want. Some people simply aren't interested in PvP, some can't stand the thought of PvE. But neither one is wrong, they're just different. Go ahead and extol the virtues of blowing people up, but don't try to trash talk something someone wants to do, that's just poor form.

The best thing you can do for a younger player is get them connected to people they can ask questions of and teach them how to search for their own answers. There's so much to Eve that there's no simple checklist of stuff people need to know. It's better to teach him to learn about Eve than trying to teach him about something specific. If you teach someone something they can do that something; if you teach them to learn, they can do anything.

Send your friend a 21 day buddy invite! Select PLEX as the reward, and send him a PLEX to activate the account with. This way your friend gets 51 days to try the game, effectively for free.

Alternately, send your friend the 60 day trial invite. More time to try the game for free means more opportunity to try everything on St Mio's "What to do in EVE Online" chart :)

I've been playing EVE since 2005, and I have to say that is a VERY nice chart. Liked.

Hello Alpheias,

You are right that EVE is fun, but it is even more fun together with (or against) friends! Bringing in your friend was good. Blink

I would recommend that you show him the basics of EVE and then let your friend decide on his own. But be also sure that you show him that even a new player can play an important role in pvp between verteran players. A tackler can decide the outcome of a battle, so your friend shouldn't be afraid to go into battles alongside with chars that have 100+ million skillpoints.

But of course he can choose to do pve, engage in market and industry (which can be seen as refined pvp by the way) or just hang around and let himself drift through the universe enjoying chance meetings.

EVE is rich enough to allow ALL of these styles.

Best way to ruin EVE for someone is to take them to say 0.0 and spoon fed them everything from ships to pure ISK.

Nobody likes being a liability and believe me that's what you feel if someone takes you away from high sec before you have learned anything.
New guys just don't survive in low and null on their own and asking help each time you log in will eventually ruin your game experience as well.

So let the guy learn the game first on his own; they all eventually realise that making money in high sec can be quite boring unless you like industry and market games. Blink

The crazypants got a bit annoyed with which skills he could and couldn't train so he got himself a 3-month subscription.

And I echo Taedrin's statement, that is a very nice chart. You get a like.
