Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with Eve on Windows 8.1? My laptop has Windows 8, and has been asking me to upgrade to 8.1 for ages now. The only real reason I haven't is in case it messes with Eve. Any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

Ugh Win 8 is eyeball shredding madness

Dont let Microshaft tell you what to do.

Stick with anything other than Win8.

I haven't had any major problems with 8. Yeah, the tiles are stupid, not being able to stop an update restart is annoying, and the default media-running programs are ridiculously slow, but it runs what I want it to run.

I haven't had any issues. I personally stay away from the "start menu" like it's infected with the Black Death.

Win 8 has caused me nothing but issues. One of the more hilariously aggravating side effects is their touch screen implementation combined with some of the manufacturer's drivers on my laptop. It makes the launcher utterly unusable(the computer thinks the launcher is on the touchpad interface, and the mouse cursor bounces off that portion of the screen while the launcher is the active window), and has relegated that machine to being used mostly for single clients, while my desktop Win 7 still runs like a dream and actually has a start button.

Whilst Win8 is pathetic and annoying and frustrating ... the only issue I have had with EVE is a regular "Windows is out of memory message" even though I have 8Gb of ram.

I have yet to find a game which not runs totally fine on Win 8.1. EVE has no problems at all. Even games which "totally require dosbox" like Warcraft I run without dosbox and without any issues at all.

You're an idiot.

Windows 8 is as good, if not better than windows 7 in terms of its UI.

Windows 8 for the most part, can function nearly the same as windows 7. I LITERALLY (Using the literal meaning of the word literal here guys) See my metro screen less than once a week.

When people complain about windows 8, A good majority of the time they're complaining about the metro UI, Which is really for the most part optional.

I haven't had any issues running EVE. I regularly run a decent number of clients at once.

... and the fact that it defaults to downloading fullscreen apps for skype etc even if you have three 30" monitors

- or the counter intuitive way it handles multiple screens

... and the whole closing apps by swiping down and switching by swiping left right is just dumb with a mouse

- or the lack of any indication how many apps are actually still running

- and the way it tries to trick people into logging in with a microsoft account which plays havoc on business lans especially running samba shares

- and the way there is no easy way to tell what desktop programs have been installed on an unfamiliar PC

- the extra mouse clicks to do simple tasks

- defaulting to apps rather than installed full feature desktop versions when opening documents

- a total stuff up with wireless networking where WIN8 cannot communicate with many dualband wireless routers at all

The list goes on.

I work in IT. Most support people hate it. Of course most sales people (cos its all they can get to sell) will tell you its great.

EVE works fine with 8.1.

I, however, am still running 7 Ultimate x64, because I love it Big smile

The reasons that I avoid "APPS" like the plague are many. So long as you take the time to force windows 8 to behave less like metro and more like windows the better your experience gets.

I recently bought a new gaming computer, it came with Windows 8.1.

I dreaded the prospect of using Windows 8 after the little I had seen of the Metro UI abomination, and the horror stories posted everywhere.

But: I'm not sure if it's because of the way the manufacturer had it pre-configured, or because of 8.1, but gaming feels almost like using Windows 7 - that is, I boot right into desktop mode, and I see nothing of the Metro UI nonsense unless I click the Start button.

Well, and aside from that, it boots *MUCH* faster. Windows 7 took ages for me to get started and ready to play.

I've had zero issues running EVE or other games, and feels more solid than Windows 7, so I'm happy with it.

Mind you: I use Windows exclusively to play games, so my interaction with the OS comes down to launching Steam, or clicking game icons. So I cannot say what Windows 8.1 is like for general use and handling normal applications.

You're running an x64 operating system right?
